Smith & Wesson 940-3, a new concealed carry snubnose revolver
Smith & Wesson introduces the model 940-3 9mm Luger snubnose revolver, built on a solid J-frame and designed for deep concealed carry and personal protection
New for 2026, Smith & Wesson announces the model 940-3 9mm Luger double-action snubnose revolver – a solid, reliable design conceived for deep concealment and defensive carry.
Built on Smith & Wesson's quintessential J-frame and featuring a fluted cylinder, the 940-3 is the latest incarnation of the Model 940, a well-known and appreciated S&W product from the late 20th Century.
First introduced in 1991 and discontinued in 1998, the Smith & Wesson Model 940 quickly became a favorite choice among concealed carry owners and revolver enthusiasts, chiefly due to its 9mm Luger chambering, offering high levels of performance compared to .38 Special – the standard for this class of firearms back in the day.

The Model 940 was since re-proposed multiple times in special distributor-exclusive editions; the launch of the Model 940-3 brings it back in full swing, and hopefully for good, in Smith & Wesson's catalog.
Smith & Wesson's new Model 940-3 is entirely manufactured out of stainless steel, with a full shiny brushed finish, and doesn't feature the controversial Internal Lock a.k.a. "Hillary hole" system previously available on other Smith & Wesson models – essentially a hole that would allow the revolver to be made inert and unusable with a factory-issued key – deemed useful for long-term safe storage by some while many others long considered it a shoehorned gun control measure that would delay deployment in critical home defense situations.
Standing at 16,7 cm / 6.6" in overall length and weighing in at barely 652 grams (23 oz) when empty, the new Smith & Wesson 940-3 revolver comes issued from factory with a black U-notch dovetailed rear sight, an XS Sights night front sight, and a black Hogue Overmolded Bantam slip-proof checkered finger groove grip.
The barrel of the new Model 940-3 revolver is 6,98 cm / 2.¾" long and features a full lug for the ejector rod.
The trigger is double-action only, with a fully enclosed hammer that makes the shape of this firearm nice and rounded for printless carry, easy and snag-proof drawing, and even coat pocket carry and use for those who prefer such techniques.
The cylinder holds five rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition and is cut for moon clips: three are issued with each sample, allowing users to pocket-carry spares for quick reloads if needed.
MSRP on the US market is set at $899,00; for further information, visit the official Smith & Wesson website.
