First announced back in October last year, the SR1 double-action revolver is finally available on pre-order and on the US market by Standard Manufacturing, the New Britain (Connecticut)-based company known for mostly for their spectacular DP12 bull-pup double-barrel pump-action shotgun that has been in production since 2015 and has been featured in countless movies, TV shows, and videogames.

Designed as a concealed carry, personal defense firearm, the Standard Mfg. SR1 revolver is essentially a single-barrel, simplified variant of the S333 model introduced back at the 2019 edition of SHOT Show, and blends a futuristic, streamlined design with a remarkable ease of use, particularly due to the choice of calibers – .22 Long Rifle and .22 Winchester Magnum rimfire at launch, with a .38 Special model planned for the future – which results in basically nonexistent recoil and muzzle climb, acceptable capacity (.22 cylinders hold up to 8 rounds, the future .38 Special variant will be more standard at 5 rounds) while keeping the overall weight down to just 510 grams / 18 oz. when empty.

While the idea of a .22 rimfire revolver as a primary defensive gun can be met with a scoff by someone, the lack of recoil and muzzle climb will help in placing multiple rounds on target in a relatively short time even under stress; .22 WMR in particular can be considered quite effective, particularly at the typically very short ranges inherent of personal defense engagements, and that's without reminding everybody that any gun is better than no gun at all at the time of need. Like the old adage says, "a .22 in your pocket is better than a .45 left at home".

The Standard Mfg. SR1 revolver features a double-action only trigger, with a fully shrounded hammer, a "Glock-style" blade safety at the trigger and a Transfer Bar safety that prevents the hammer from making contact with the firing pin unless the trigger is fully depressed. Additionally, the SR1's double cantilever trigger design and integral articulated safety make accidental discharges all but impossible.

The cylinder of the SR1 revolver is manufactured out of 4140 high strength steel – just like the 444 mm / 1.¾" long barrel – and features a steel hinge and a Ruger-style push-button release. The frame of the SR1 is manufactured out of black anodized 7075-T6 aluminum alloy, and is mated to a polymer grip assembly that also includes the trigger guard.

Standing at 127 mm (5 inch) in overall length, the Standard Mfg. SR1 revolver comes with a set of fixed front and rear sights, featuring high-visibility luminescent green inserts for day-time and night-time shooting.

The Standard Mfg. SR1 revolver is sold on the US market at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $489. For further information and for all inquiries concerning international availability, visit the official Standard Manufacturing website.
