Derya RAN series of modern lever-action rifles
Turkish company Derya enters the lever-action rifle market with the RAN, RAN Ironwolf and RAN-X models, available in three calibers
First announced at the end of May and officially introduced at thr 2026 edition of GUNCON, held in Niles (Ohio, USA) on June 17 thru 20, the RAN line of lever action rifles marks the debut of the Turkish-based Derya Arms company on the centerfire lever-action rifles market.
Available in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt variants, and built on a mono-block full steel receiver with nickel or matte black QPQ (Melonite) finish depending on the version, the Derya Arms RAN lever-action rifles boast a dieselpunk-ish design that has nothing to do with the classic, era-correct rifles offered by well-established manufacturers of historic replicas such as Chiappa, Pedersoli or Uberti, and indeed isn't meant to compete with them as much as to offer a cost-effective alternative to hunters, sport shooters and general users whose aesthetic taste is more distinctly modern.
Derya RAN lever-action rifle
All the Derya Arms RAN series rifles are based on a modernized version of the Winchester 1892 action, featuring a single-action only trigger and external hammer, a large loop lever, a loading gate on the right side of the receiver, and top ejection.
All models allow the hammer to be manually moved to a half-cock position, and feature a manual cross-bolt safety. Additionally, a rebounding hammer – which bounces back a few millimeters after each shot is fired, so as not to lay in constant contact with the firing pin when down – makes accidental discharges virtually impossible.
Other common features to all the variants of the Derya Arms RAN series of rifles include a threaded muzzle, a fixed front sight and an adjustable rear sight installed at the rear of a Picatinny rail located above the barrel to allow the use of red dot sight or long eye relief magnified optics.
Derya RAN Ironwolf lever-action rifle
The Derya Arms RAN series includes two full-sized variants, the first being the baseline Derya RAN variant and featuring a full nickel finish on the receiver, magazine tube and 508 mm / 20" barrel; a high-capacity rifle, the baseline Derya RAN will hold up to nine rounds of .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum ammunition, and up to ten rounds of .45 Colt ammunition.
What makes the Derya RAN stand out among the crowd are the peculiar Turkish walnut stock and handguard, both featuring metal plaques with M-LOK slots for accessories on both sides – in the case of the stock, allowing the use of clip-on spare ammunition carriers. The stock is designed to offer the same cheek weld to both left-handed and right-handed shooters, and features laser-engraved slip-proof checkered surfaces on the grip.
Derya RAN-X lever action pistol (short-barrel rifle)
The Derya Arms RAN Ironwolf rifle features a full black Melonite finish on the magazine tube, receiver, and 457 mm / 18" barrel; a black machined aluminum handguard with M-LOK slots on all sides and a small Picatinny rail portion on the bottom front; and an aluminum buttstock based on a patented design from the Turkish-based Parantez R&D Defense company.
Dubbed itself the "Ironwolf", the stock can be finely adjustable in height and drop with no need for inserts or shims, just intervening on a set of external dials and screws. This allows the RAN Ironwolf rifle to adapt to left-handed and right-handed shooters of any height and size, and to any shooting technique. Capacity is the same as the baseline RAN: nine rounds of .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum ammunition, ten rounds of .45 Colt.
Last, the third model – dubbed the RAN-X – is configured to be legally classifiable as a short barrel rifle, but nonetheless a rifle, in Europe and as a handgun in the United States. The Derya Arms RAN-X features a 304,8 mm / 12" long barrel, a resized M-LOK machined aluminum handguard sharing the same design as the RAN Ironwolf rifle handguard, and a shorter magazine tube that will hold up to five rounds of .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum ammunition, and up to six rounds in .45 Colt.
Unique to the Derya Arms RAN-X is the Steelfang PSB buttstock, manufactured out of machined hard-anodized black aluminum and featuring M-LOK slots on both sides; in the variants distributed in the United States, the stock is configured as an armbrace so that the RAN-X can legally be classified as a handgun and thus not subject to strict federal short-barrel rifles regulations as per the 1934 National Firearms Act.
Weight-size, the baseline Derya RAN and RAN Ironwolf rifles tip the scales at 3,75 kilograms (8.27 lbs), while the stubby RAN-X is much lighter at "barely" 2,48 kilograms (5.48 lbs). Length-wise, the Derya Arms RAN baseline rifle is once again the biggest at 98,5 cm / 38.8" overall; the Derya RAN Ironwolf is slightly shorter at 93,47 cm / 36.8", while the Derya RAN-X stands at barely 58 cm / 22.83".
As of today, the Derya Arms RAN series of lever-action rifle is only available in the United States: the Derya RAN rifle is sold at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $849.00, going up to $999.00 for the RAN Ironwolf model and $899.00 for the shorter RAN-X.
