Kimber CDS9, a new micro-compact 1911 pistol
Kimber introduces a new 1911-based micro-compact: the CDS9 is a concealed-carry single-action 9mm Luger pistol, offering a staggering capacity of up to fifteen rounds in a truly diminutive size
Freshly introduced to the US market, the new Kimber CDS9 (Covert Double Stack 9mm) semi-automatic pistol is the latest entry in the field of deeply concealable, high capacity micro-compact pistols for personal defense by a company best known for their extensive line of 1911-type handguns for defensive, sporting, hunting, and professional/tactical applications.
Like most Kimber pistols (except for the R7 Mako series), the new CDS9 is a 1911 derivative, optimized and reduced in size for easier holstering, drawing, and quick use in defensive situations.
Standing at 15,7 cm / 6.2" overall and weighing in at barely 590 grams (20.8 oz) when empty, featuring a 3.1" barrel with a 5R 1:10" rifling, the CDS9 was designed from the ground up as a defensive micro-compact and comes with fully ambidextrous controls and improved ergonomics.
Kimber's new CDS9 pistol is built around a Picatinny-railed aluminum frame and comes with a stainless steel slide featuring front and rear serrations; both are coated in Kimber's own KimPro II protective finish, a high-tech blend of nano-silicates, boron, PFTE, molybdenum disulfide and other lubricants.
The lines of the frame were redesigned and rounded for easier deployment and to reduce the risk of snagging on clothes; the slide also features a fixed notch rear sight, a red fiber optic front post, and a machined micro red dot sights interface compatible with the Shield RMSc and other models that share its footprint.
Magazine capacity is ten 9x19 cartridges though by adding the provided extension it is possible to bring capacity up to thirteen or fifteen cartridges.
The new Kimber CDS9 pistol is available in a standard variant (OR)(RL) and in the (OR)(RL) (TFS) variant; both come with VZ Frag G10 grip panels, but the TFS variant also features a lengthened (9,2 cm / 3.64") barrel with a ½x28 thread at the muzzle for compensators or sound suppressors.
Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the new Kimber CDS9 micro-compact pistol on the US market has been set at $1,075.00 for the baseline model and $1,085.00 for the TFS model.
