FN America: the new FN 503 concealed carry pistol
The FN 503 striker-fired single-stack pistol from FN America – the company’s first entry into subcompact 9mm handguns market – incarnates FN's legendary heritage into a perfect concealed carry option for today's street-wise user
The FN 503 semi-automatic striker-fired pistol, announced just a few hours ago by FN America – the US-based subsidiary of the legendary FN Herstal Group of Belgium – represents the Company's first entry in the market of single-stack, super-slim semi-automatic handguns conceived for civilian concealed carry, personal defense, and for back-up or off-duty uses by law enforcement personnel.
The current Coronavirus pandemic is not hindering the US domestic market for firearms, ammunition and accessories – if anything, it is boosting it. FN America's timing in introducing a new variant of their premier FN 509 line of striker-fired service pistols seems thus fortunate. The FN 503 is a slimline, polymer-frame handgun, offering discreet concealment without compromising in performance.
Feeding through a single-stack magazine that offers a 6- or 8-rounds capacity in 9mm Luger, the FN 503 concealed carry pistol is barely 14,98 cm / 5.9" long overall, and features a 7,87 cm / 3.1" barrel with a 1:10" twist rate, a recessed target crown and a polished chamber and feed ramp.
A set of low-profile, three-dot iron sights provide prompt target alignment capabilities while at the same time preventing snags when drawing or holstering the FN 503. The slim, rail-less polymer frame utiilizes the same dovetail as the FN 509 series of pistol, and offers an advanced texture for secure and comfortable grip.
Other features of the FN 503 include rear cocking serrations for easy manipulation of the slide; an oversized slide stop lever located on the left side of the frame and an oversized, reversible magazine catch; a loaded chamber indicator; and a crisp, easy to shoot metal trigger with a 5 to 7 lbs (2,2 to 3,1 kg) pull. A trigger safety is provided.
Standing at barely 2,79 cm / 1.1" of overall width and 21 oz (595 grams) in weight, the FN 503 pocket pistol is advertised at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $549.00 in the United States. No information has been released as of today concerning export availability and pricing.
