Savage Arms 110 Scout bolt action rifle
Lightweight, compact, packed with features and available in four different calibers, the Savage Arms model 110 Scout bolt-action rifle is the latest take on Jeff Cooper's well-known "Scout Rifle" concept
First announced early this year and made available commercially a few months ago, the Savage 110 Scout bolt-action rifle is the latest on the market to have been built to incarnate the canons of the "Scout Rifle" championed in the 1980s by Col. Jeff Cooper.
Although conceived mostly for hunting – particularly to provide durability and ease to use in the most demanding fields and conditions, and to allow fast, accurate shooting from a variety of positions, including off-hand! – its features also make it viable and desirable for a plethora of other uses, ranging from sport shooting to Police patrol.
The Savage 110 Scout rifle is built around a standard action, with a tang-mounted safety, and a sporter-style, flat dark earth synthetic stock featuring soft-grip surfaces on the grip and handguard and sling swivel studs. The patented AccuStock system rails secure the action three-dimensionally along its entire length for increased stability and accuracy.
The overall length can range between 95,25 cm (37.5") and 97,79 cm (38.5") thanks to the Company's own AccuFit system, using an exclusive combination of interchangeable comb risers and length-of-pull inserts to create a custom fit for any shooter. The overall weight is set at 3,5 kilograms (7.72 lbs), empty.
The 41,14 cm (16.½") matte-black button-rifled carbon steel barrel comes fitted with a removable muzzle brake; the sighting system is composed by a Williams peep-style rear aperture adjustable for windage and elevation; a fixed front blade sight protected by wings against possible damage that may occur with hard use; and a 16-slot, 16,8 cm (6.63") Picatinny machined aluminum rail for optical sights.
The Savage 110 Scout rifle feeds through detachable AICS-type magazines holding ten rounds in .223 Remington, .308 Winchester and .338 Federal, or five rounds in .450 Bushmaster.
Performance is further boosted by another Savage Arms signature feature – the AccuTrigger system, providing a crisp let-off and a fully user-adjustable pull ranging between 1.1 kilograms (2.5 lbs) and 2,7 kilograms (6 lbs) in weight.
A manageable, versatile platform, the Savage 110 Scout bolt-action rifle is also an affordable one, being sold in the United States at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $819.00; for availability and pricing elsewhere, consult your national distributor.
