Hornady VEXIS: a new era in biometric security
Hornady Security introduces the VEXIS biometric system, based on palm vein recognition technology and available at launch in two lines of safes, vault doors, and as an upgrade kit
New for late 2026, Hornady Security redefines biometric access with the introduction of VEXIS, a patent-pending palm vein recognition technology that delivers unmatched speed, accuracy, privacy and reliability.
Rather than relying on fingerprints, facial recognition or access codes, VEXIS identifies users by the unique vein pattern beneath the skin of their palm, providing secure, contactless access in less than half a second.
Unlike surface-based biometric systems, VEXIS reads internal vein patterns that cannot be copied, photographed, forged or left behind.
The technology captures more than 2.5 million data points during each scan, resulting in exceptionally low false acceptance and false rejection rates while maintaining user privacy through locally stored data that is never uploaded or shared.
Jason Hornady, Vice President of Hornady, says:
Security should be both uncompromising and effortless. VEXIS combines advanced biometric technology with the dependability our customers expect, creating one of the most secure and user-friendly access systems available today.
Built around harmless near-infrared technology, Hornady's VEXIS recognizes vein patterns that remain stable throughout adulthood.
Each device stores up to ten unique users while supporting multi-factor authentication through a keypad and mechanical key backup.
This ensures that the content of any secure box, safe, or room protected by the VEXIS system remains at quick and easy reach for all family members, or members of a department, while remaining protected from unauthorized access.
It also allows users to codify the system to access with the right or left hand.
At launch, the Hornady VEXIS system is available embedded in three Hornady Security product lines: the Night Guard bedside safe box; the Mobilis series of safes, in three sizes; and the Premium vault doors, in two variants.
Designed for immediate bedside access, the VEXIS Night Guard opens by scanning your palm, opening a padded compartment for firearms and valuables.
The safe features a clean, modern design with quiet spring-assisted drawer, heavy-duty 14-gauge steel construction with hardened locking lugs, an integrated USB-C charging port, a discreet dimmable clock display, and both keypad and mechanical key backup.
Available in single-door, double-door and double-door MAX configuration, Hornady's VEXIS Mobilis safes combine modular construction with advanced biometric security. The modular design allows each safe to be carried through standard doorways and assembled in place, while VEXIS technology provides secure, sub-second access.
Additional features include the customizable Square-Lok interior organization system, built-in power outlets, heavy-duty 9-gauge steel construction, pry-resistant doors, one-hour Fire Shield protection rated to 1.260°C / 2,300°F, and keypad and mechanical key backup.
Engineered to transform a safe room into a secure vault, Hornady's VEXIS Premium Vault Doors feature VEXIS palm vein recognition along with keypad and mechanical key backup.
Designed to fit standard residential rough openings, the doors feature a patent-pending reversible hinge system for left- or right-hand in-swing installation, heavy-duty 12-gauge steel construction, sixteen 1-inch live locking bolts, one-hour Fire Shield protection rated to 1.260°C / 2,300°F, and a Square-Lok compatible back panel for customizable storage.
Finally, the VEXIS Safe Upgrade Kit brings next-generation palm vein recognition to compatible existing safes and vault doors without replacing the entire unit.
The kit includes the VEXIS keypad and swingbolt locking mechanism, providing fast, contactless biometric access for first-generation Mobilis safes and other compatible models.
