Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight: versatility, redefined
Fenixlight Limited introduces the PD40R V2.0 flashlight: a perfected, redefined version of one of Fenix's flagship products, the new PD40R V2.0 features a mechanical, easy to operate rotary switch for adjustment and is perfectly suited for outdoors, service and EDC purposes
New for 2020, Fenixlight Limited – a major global manufacturer of lighting accessories for sport, outdoors and profesional uses – is introducing the Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight.
First showcased as a prototype at the 2020 SHOT Show and officially launched on the global markets in April, the PD40R V2.0 is a redefined and upgraded version of the PD40 design, a powerful and versatile stable in Fenix's production that has been discontinued for some time now. Upgraded to new standards of technology and performance, the PD40R V2.0 is easily recharged and offers power and output to spare.
The Fenix PD40R V2.0 portable flashlight is powered by a 5000mAh 21700 Li-Ion battery that recharges through an USB Type-C charging port located at the base of the bezel, protected by a rubber cap and featuring a power gauge LED to provide immediate positive feedback on the charging status.
The USB charging technology makes the PD40R V2.0 exceptionally fit for law enforcement personnel, civil defense and first responders, as it can be recharged everywhere – including on vehicles – and be ready for use at a moment's notice. The full recharge time is 3.5 hours; the single Luminus SST70 LED hosted in the bezel boasts a lifespan of 50.000 hours, and the flashlight can deliver a maximum output of 3000 Lumens and a maximum throw of 405 meters.
Barely 138 mm / 5.43" long, the Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight is built on a machined 6061-T6 aluminum alloy tube that measures 26 mm / 1.02" in diameter and is protected by a Type III hard-anodized surface coating; the body is checkered for a safe grip in basically all conditions, is equipped with a steel belt clip and is designed to be roll-proof.
As the successor of the already well-acclaimed PD40R, the Fenix PD40R V2.0 is more compact and handy, and is told apart by an innovative rotary switch located at the base of the bezel, allowing quick one-handed navigation between the multiple available output modes, even when wearing gloves. Unlike other similar rotary switches, the second-generation mechanical ring found on the PD40R V2.0 does not generate magnetic interference.
The Fenix PD40R V2.0 offers five output levels, including one strobe mode. A digitally-regulated circuitry system guarantees a stable output; the charging port, battery seat and inner circuitry are all waterproof, as the Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight is IP68 certified for protection against water immersion up to 2 mt in depth, and is resistant to shocks and drops up to 1 meter.
The Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight does thus completely without the classic rubberized operation button on the endcap, as found on other models. The endcap, however, features two metal wings providing tail-stand capabilities and dubbing as a loop for an issued lanyard.
Weighing 117 grams / 4.13 oz without batter, the Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight can be operated at extreme temperatures – from -35°C to +45°C – and is backed by Fenix's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
