CZ Bren 2 MS Carbine
SHOT Show 2020 – The CZ Bren 2 MS Carbine is the semi-automatic civilian version of the CZ Bren 2 assault rifle, now available to the North American market; featuring a longer barrel and an M-LOK free-float handguard, it sports features that will surely appeal the international markets as well
At the 2020 edition of the SHOT Show in Las Vegas, CZ-USA – the north American subsidiary of CZ - Česká Zbrojovka Uherský Brod – debuted the CZ Bren 2 MS Carbine semi-automatic rifle. While civilian-grade, semi-automatic versions of CZ's new Bren 2 assault rifle have been available in Europe for a while, the variants sold in the US were, as of today, all classified as pistols due to barrel length and 922(r) regulations.
The CZ Bren 2 MS Carbine operates via a short-stroke gas piston system with a return spring contained within the action itself. Without the need for a buffer tube, it features a folding, adjustable stock.
Built around a fiberglass-reinforced polymer lower receiver and a lightweight aluminum alloy upper, the CZ Bren 2 MS Carbine weighs 7.3 lbs (3.3 kilograms) and is 35.6 inches / 90,4 cm long with its stock open and 28 inches / 71,1 cm long with its stock unfolded. A 16.5"/42 cm cold-hammer forged barrel is protected by a machined aluminum M-LOK compatible handguard.
The "MS" designation, however, means that the rifle employs a modular forend that can be swapped to different lengths or styles based on the user's preferences and needs.
Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, the CZ Bren 2 MS Carbine feeds through readily available STANAG 4159 AR-15 type magazines of any make and capacity. No sights are provided: a full-length top Picatinny rail provides plenty of room for folding sights and optics.
The non-reciprocating charging handle of the Bren 2 MS Carbine stays stowed in the forward position until it is needed and is swappable from side to side. If needed, it can also be used as a forward assist.
An AR-style bolt catch/release system is mirrored on both sides of the firearm, as well as a catch/release nestled into the front of the trigger guard. The magazine release and safety are also ambidextrous.
