Ruger announces American Rifle Generation II Patrol bolt-action rifle
Introducing the new Ruger American Rifle Generation II Patrol, a lightweight and versatile bolt-action rifle for hunting, sport shooting and law enforcement applications
Launched officially on the US market on November 6, the Ruger American Rifle Generation II Patrol bolt-action rifle expands the already popular Ruger American Rifle Gen.II line with a new model conceived to be lightweight, compact, versatile and manageable, perfect for all sorts of hunting applications – from battue hunting to hog hunting all the way up to deer hunting – and just as apt to many long-range shooting sports, such as PRS and similar disciplines.
Last, but not least, as its own name infers, Ruger's new American Rifle Gen.II Patrol bolt-action rifle aims at carving itself a comfortable spot on the patrol rifle market, particularly when it comes to local and rural law enforcement agencies, game wardens, national park rangers, and such.
The Ruger American Rifle Generation II Patrol bolt-action rifles are built around a machined alloy steel action and a single-piece, CNC-machined stainless steel bolt with three massive locking lugs and a wide 70-degrees throw. The cocking handle knob features a familiar 5/16"-24 thread and is thus easily removable and replaceable.

A single-piece MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for optics is installed directly on to the receiver, while a three-positions top tang sliding safety, located at easy and convenient thumb reach, locks the bolt to prevent inadvertent opening while allowing the rifle to be loaded with the safety engaged. The Ruger American Rifle Gen.II Patrol rifle feeds through detachable magazines and features Ruger's own, patented Marksman trigger, with a crisp break and a weight user-adjustable between 3 and 5 pounds (1,3 - 2,2 kg).
The Bull barrel of the Ruger American Rifle Generation II Patrol rifle is cold-hammer forged and precision-rifled, is barely 40,8 cm / 16.1" long, and is threaded at the muzzle for flash hiders, muzzle brakes, compensators, or sound suppressors.

The barrel, thread protector, receiver and bolt handle are professionally coated in a black, durable and easy-to-maintain Cerakote finish for superior resistance to wear, corrosion and external elements, and are mated to the stock by Ruger's patented Power Bedding block that locks on the action while allowing the barrel to freely float.
The black polymer stock of the Ruger American Rifle Generation II Patrol bolt-action rifle shares the same design as the others from the Generation II American Rifle series; it is particularly rigid and stable, and features a captivating white splatter finish that provides an excellent grip in all conditions without being too sharp or abrasive.
Like all Generation II Ruger American Rifle stocks, this too features integral front and real sling swivel studs and a factory-issued, large radius soft rubber recoil pad on the heel that allows for easy shouldering and improved geometry, progressively collapsing when the gun is fired for better felt recoil reduction.
Also featured are an installed spacer that can be removed to adjust the length of pull from 13.75" (34,9 cm) to 12" (30,48 cm), and a removable low comb that improves sight alightment when using magnified optics.
Optional spacer and cheek risers are available, sold separately, and so is an accessory stock weight kit that adds up to 1.6 lbs (725 grams) to the butt of the rifle to better absorb recoil and improve overall balance when utilizing heavier muzzle devices.
Standing at just under 95 centimeters (37.35") in overall length and weighing in at 2,9 kilograms (6.6 lbs) when empty, the new Ruger American Rifle Generation II Patrol bolt-action rifle is available in .308 Winchester / 7.62x51mm, .223 Remington / 5.56x45mm NATO, and 6mm ARC; the earlier version uses Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) magazines, while all others will feed through AR-15 type a.k.a. USGI a.k.a. STANAG 4179 magazines.
Three new entries chambered for 338 ARC, .300 Winchester Magnum and 7mm PRC, all feeding through USGI or AICS type magazines, will be launched in the near future. For now, the available models are sold on the US market at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $729.00.
