Firefield Barrage 1.5-5×32: The entry-level optic for airsoft and Mil-Sim enthusiasts
The Firefield brand is well known on the international markets for its vast catalog of entry-level accessories and optics, offered reasonable quality at budget prices, dedicated to a vast array of different commercial customers.
While several models in the Firefield catalog are absolutely viable for competition shooting and personal, home or property defense, most of the company’s products are designed for leisure or recreational shooting, for training purposes – particularly with rimfire rifles or carbines, or airguns – and for professional-level airsoft, paintball, or MIL-SIM competitions.
That’s the case of the Firefield Barrage 1.5-5×32 riflescope, one of Firefield’s best-established products – the Barrage line of riflescopes was launched in early spring 2017 – and one of their best sellers, being easily spotted at shooting ranges and MIL-SIM fields mostly anywhere in the world.
The Firefield Barrage is a low-power variable optic (LPVO) for short-to-mid range engagements, built around a black anodized, single-piece 30mm 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum alloy body that’s nitrogen-purged and protected against fogging and water as per IPX4 specs.
The Firefield Barrage riflescope hosts a front 32mm objective lens, protected by a multi-layered anti-reflective green coating and by a large, slant sunshade that also offers protection against bumps or shocks.
The Barrage also features a two-piece Picatinny rail attachment, and is reminiscent in its aesthetics of the legendary Trijicon ACOG gunsight; that’s not a case, being the Barrage specifically designed to perform best on AR-15 variants, including rimfire models, as well as on its airgun and airsoft clones.
All optical glass components of the Firefield Barrage riflescope are multi-coated for higher light transmission at dusk or dawn. The eyepiece offers a generous and safe eye relief – 130 mm / 5.1” to 50 mm / 1.97” depending on the selected level of zoom – and features a rear parallax dial and a front magnification adjustment dial, from a basic 1.5x to 5x for longer-range engagements.
The Firefield Barrage comes with a second focal plane MIL-DOT reticle with 0.3 MRAD dots on hash marks to quickly compensate the ballistic drop of 5.56×45mm 55 grain ammunition; more accurate compensation can be achieved via the with quick elevation adjustment turret out to 500 yards (approximately 457,2 meters).
More specifically, two capped ¼ MOA-per-click turrets allow the reticle to be finely tuned in both windage and elevation, and protect against accidental loss of zero in case of impacts or careless handling.
Additionally, powered by a single CR2032 battery, the reticle can be illuminated on five different brightness levels in red or green through a dial located on the left side of the scope tube. Depending on the selected brightness level, a single battery can offer up to 100 hours of continuous runtime.
Depending on your Country, the Firefield Barrage riflescope can come either optionally or standard with a built-in, visible red light or green light laser; the laser is independently adjustable via two set screws in the head, powered by a single CR2 battery and activated manually via a rubberized push-button at the rear.
The Firefield Barrage riflescope may not be at the cutting edge of optical technology, but that’s the whole point: it was never meant to represent an alternative to highly priced Gucci-tier optics, but to carve itself a respectable market position among first-time gun owners, recreational shooters, and MIL-SIM enthusiasts – and so far, it has been very successful in its mission.
If what you’re looking for is a solid scope for leisure shooting with airguns, .22 rimfire rifles, centerfire rifles – the Firefield Barrage is certified to withstand recoil up to .308 Winchester – or to walk your local airsoft or paintball field in a high-level official competition… then this is the scope for you.
Many shooters can not afford to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars (or euros) on a scope; most importantly, in many cases, many shooters do not need such an expensive scope for what they’re going to do. Luckily enough, today’s market offers reliable and affordable options for all purposes, and that’s the case of the Firefield Barrage.
