Smith & Wesson Model 1854 lever-action rifles, now in .45-70 Government
Smith & Wesson expands the Model 1854 series of lever-action rifles, now available in the powerful .45-70 Government caliber for big game hunting

First introduced at the 2024 edition of SHOT Show and made available in calibers such as .44 Magnum, .357 Magnum and .45 Colt last year, the Smith & Wesson Model 1854 series of lever-action rifles is now also available – at least on the US market – in the classic, powerful .45-70 Government caliber.
Smith & Wesson's Model 1854 lever-action rifles are largely aimed at the hunting market, and specifically to big game hunting and battue hunting. That's why the addition of .45-70 Government to the line of available caliber options feels almost as a natural evolution of the line, offering more stopping power against mid-to-large size game typical of Europe and north America.

Smith & Wesson Model 1854 .45-70 Government lever-action rifle – stainless model
Smith & Wesson's .45-70 Gov't Model 1854 lever-action rifles are available in two variants: a baseline version with a full stainless finish on all outer metal surfaces, with some shiny black accents, and a set of matte black polymer furniture (stock and handguard); and the Traditional Walnut version, featuring an American walnut stock and handguard, a blued magazine tube and receiver, and a full Armornite finish on the barrel.
Both models are built largely out of 416 stainless steel, with a forged receiver and a 51 cm / 20" barrel, featuring eight right-handed grooves with a 1:10" twist rate and a 11/16-24 thread at the muzzle for suppressors, muzzle brakes, flash hiders or other accessories.

The external hammer, single-action, flat-faced trigger breaks crisply and is armed by a large loop lever; Smith & Wesson's signature smooth action allows for quicker follow-up shots.
All variants feature a crossbolt safety and checkered contact surfaces on the handguard and grip for better control in all conditions, including under inclement weather. The fixed magazine tube holds up to six rounds of .45-70 Gov't ammunition, plus one in chamber of course.

Standing at 96 cm / 37.8" in overall length and weighing in at approximately 3.2 kg (113.6 oz) when empty, Smith & Wesson's Model 1854 .45-70 Government lever-action rifles come issued from factory with a fixed gold bead front sight, an adjustable XS Sights Ghost Ring rear sight, and a top 5.¾" MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for optics. The stainless model also features M-LOK slots for accessory rails on the front portion of the forend.
Smith & Wesson's new Model 1854 lever-action rifles in .45-70 Gov't are available on the US market at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,399.00 for the stainless version and $1,499.00 for the "Traditional Walnut" model.
