Mossberg introduces the MC1sc subcompact 9mm pistol
SHOT Show 2019 – A handgun... from Mossberg? Nope, it's not a mistake: in the year that marks its centennial, one of America's best known manufacturers of shotguns and rifles introduces a subcompact 9mm pistol dedicated to concealed carry and personal defense
2019 marks the 100th year of O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. – a company best known for its shotguns and rifles used by countless hunters, sport shooters, law enforcement agencies and military units throughout the world, and currently the 6th largest U.S. firearms manufacturer, dedicated to innovation with over 100 design and utility patents to its credit.
Gun enthusiasts, however, will know all too well how the first firearm to have ever been launched by Mossberg was actually a pocked handgun dubbed "The Brownie", a .22 Long Rifle and .22 Short "Pepperbox" four-barrel pistol with a rotating firing pin conceived for hunters to quickly and humanely dispatch trapped game.
With the market – particularly in the United States – focusing more and more on concealed carry handguns for self-defense, it seemed just normal for Mossberg to return to its roots at the 2019 edition of the SHOT Show with a dedicated subcompact semi-automatic pistol for personal protection.
The Mossberg MC1sc pistol represents the culmination of three years of development; with its overall length of 6.25 inches (15,87 cm), a recoil-managing weight of 19 ounces (538 grams) with empty magazine, and a 3.4"/8,63cm stainless steel barrel topped by a DLC coating and 1-in-16 twist rate, the Mossberg MC1sc is chambered for 9mm Luger and is issued with two single-stack magazines: a flush 6-round and 7-round extended, both constructed of a transparent, lubricious polymer compound for low friction, high wear resistance, and quick at-a-glance assessment of the number and type of rounds loaded. The magazines also feature easy-to-remove floor plates and high-visibility followers.
The Mossberg MC1sc is striker-fired and built around a glass-reinforced polymer frame with an aggressive, signature grip texturing, added palm swell and 1911-like grip angle for a more confident and firm grip; among its most noteworthy features is the Company's own patent-pending Mossberg STS™ (Safe Takedown System), which does not require the user to pull the trigger to dissemble for routine cleaning or maintenance.
The stainless steel slide of the Mossberg MC1sc pistol features a black DLC (Diamond Like Coating) finish, as well as multi-angle serrations for ease of manipulation and dovetailed-mounted, low-profile white 3-Dot sights.
The MC1sc pistol also offers a flat profile trigger with an integrated blade safety; a short, tactile reset; a reduced overtravel; and a 5 to 6 pound (2,2 / 2,7 kg) pull weight. The smooth take-up combined with the flat trigger face offers an improved feel and clean, crisp trigger break. Trigger guards are also oversized for ease of access and comfort. All MC1sc pistol models have a reversible magazine release, located behind the trigger guard.
Initial offerings of the Mossberg MC1sc pistol will include an optional reversible cross-bolt manual safety version; two standard offerings with sighting systems, choose from TRUGLO Tritium Pro Night Sights or a Viridian E-Series Red Laser; and a Centennial Limited Edition with a production run limited to 1,000 commemorative models with golden components and slide engravings.
