Benelli 828U Sport over-and-under competition shotgun
SHOT Show 2019 – First introduced in Europe in early 2018, the Benelli’s 828U Sport over-and-under shotgun debuted this year on the U.S. market
In case you’re wondering, in the UNESCO World Heritage List 828 is the code for the historic center of the Italian town of Urbino – where the Benelli Armi company has its bithplace and headquarters. It’s thus no wonder if Benelli wanted to homage their hometown by christening their cutting-edge line of over-and-under shotguns the 828U.
And the latest entry in the line – the Benelli 828U Sport – was finally showcased to US customers and distributors at the 2019 edition of the NSSF SHOT Show after having initially been introduced to the global markets in Europe, back in March 2018.
The Benelli 828U Sport is a 12-gauge, 76mm/3” chambered over-and-under shotgun built around the Benelli 828U design specifically for Sporting and Compak.
Benelli’s Lock Plate steel locking mechanism, common to all the 828U versions, remains the same on the Benelli 828U Sport model, but the original lightweight aluminum alloy frame has now been replaced with a matte black steel frame for a better balance.
The 828U Sport over-and-under shotgun also features the Benelli patented Progressive Balancing system, allowing the user to install and position up to eight steel weights within the stock, at 2mm intervals, for an overall of 100 grams (3.52 oz). This, in turn, lets the user tailor the weight distribution of the gun around his (or her) own shooting techniques, needs, and style.
The Benelli 828U Sport features matte black steel 76 cm / 30” barrels with a full-length glare-proof carbon fiber aiming rib, a bright white front sight, and a set of bright red Knurled End style interchangeable chokes.
Other user-adjustable features of the Benelli 828U Sport over-and-under shotgun include the selective single trigger, which can be adjusted for length and weight and totally removed for maintenance; and the stock, offering the Perfect Fitting system for fine drop and cast adjustment without modifications.
