T/C Arms recalls the Compass rifle
Thompson/Center Arms, a division of Smith & Wesson, announced a total recall of the Compass bolt-action hunting rifles amid safety concerns over potential accidental discharges
On Thursday, September 16th, Thompson/Center Arms – a subsidiary of the Smith & Wesson Corporation – issued a total recall notice for the Compass bolt-action hunting rifles.
First showcased at the 2016 SHOT Show, the T/C Arms Compass rifles started shipping to U.S. retailers in July, and was meant to be the Company's big hit for the upcoming 2016 hunting season.

The T/C Arms Compass hunting rifle started shipping in the U.S. at an MSRP of $399.00
The Company has determined that in some instances, "depending on the height and position of the rifle and other factors", a chambered round may fire if the firearm is dropped while the safety in the FIRE position.
The safety recall affects all T/C Arms Compass rifles manufactured before September 16th, 2016.

Thompson/Center Arms found out that the Compass rifle could discharge if dropped, even with the safety on
Owners of the Thompson/Center Arms Compass bolt-action hunting rifle are requested to stop using the rifle at once and to take all necessary steps to return the gun to factory for repair; there is no remedy that the user himself/herself can apply, the guns must be repaired by the company.
To facilitate the inspection and repair of recalled rifles, owners are encouraged to contact Thompson/Center at 855-512-5935 to receive instructions and a pre-paid shipping label for the return of their rifle to Thompson/Center. The company will fix the issue at no cost and return the guns to their owners as quickly and efficiently as possible.
While awaiting for the recall, owners of the T/C Arms Compass rifles are urged to store them unloaded and with the safety switch in the SAFE – LOAD/UNLOAD position.
