Cosmi Rigato, a brand new high-class hunting rifle
The Cosmi Rigato semi-automatic hunting rifle offers all the quality and the unique features that the Italian-made Cosmi shotguns have been known for in the last Century, but with the twist of a rifled barrel and a .45/70 Government or .444 Marlin chambering
The new Cosmi Rigato semi-automatic hunting rifle – "Rigato" meaning "Rifled" in Italian – is the first rifled-bore iteration of the Cosmi semi-automatic hunting shotgun, first introduced in the late 1800s by the Company founder Rodolfo Cosmi and still unique in its technical layout, features, and aesthetics.
The Cosmi Rigato semi-automatic hunting rifle breaks open for loading just like a side-by-side shotgun – and just like all Cosmi shotguns before it – allowing quick access to the unique and perfectly hand-made and finished internal components and working parts. Each Cosmi Rigato semi-automatic hunting rifle features over one hundred hand-made and hand-fitted component, and over four hundred hours of worktime are necessary for the manufacture of every single rifle.
Just like the Cosmi shotguns, the Cosmi Rigato semi-automatic hunting rifle is a long-recoil operated firearm, featuring a 52 cm / 20.4" barrel that is the only component not made by the Cosmi company – it's a US-made Krieger barrel; the wooden stock and handguard are made out of briar root walnut, all hand-worked and hand-polished, patterned and finished as per customer's requests.
The receiver is machined out of steel, starting from the same blank steel billet used by Cosmi for the receivers of their 28-gauge shotguns – this being more apt, dimensionally-wise, to be converted to rifle calibers. All finishes and engravings are also left to the customer's choice.
Just like the Cosmi shotguns, the Cosmi Rigato semi-automatic hunting rifle fits a round in chamber and feeds from a magazine tube located inside the stock. This allows the rifle to be carried open, like a side-by-side or over-and-under shotgun, in total safety, and made ready to use by rapidly closing it while raising it to the target. The magazine tube holds five rounds of .45/70 Government or .444 Marlin ammunition; due to the peculiar design of the magazine on the Cosmi, the choice was made to use lever-action rifle calibers.
The Cosmi Rigato semi-automatic hunting rifle will come with a fixed front sight, a flip-up rear sight, and a pivoting quick-attach/quick-detach scope mount that will allow shooters to set up their rifle for several types of hunt without ruining its unique and aesthetically superior lines. Just like all Cosmi firearms, however, this will not come at a "popular" price: the retail price for the Cosmi Rigato will start at 17.000 euro.
