Launched on the US market on January 2 and brand new for 2024, the Taurus GX2 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol is just the latest entry in the field of budget-friendly concealed carry, personal and home-defense oriented pistols that the world-famous Brazilian company (and its US-based subsidiary, Taurus USA, out of Bainbridge, GA) has been dominating in terms of sales ever since the G2C pistol was first launched in 2018.

Available in a black slide and a stainless slide variant, the Taurus GX2 is pretty much along the lines of the GX4 and other similar striker-fired defensive pistols launched by the Brazilian company and its US-based subsidiary in the past few years, but with a twist: while, the GX4 was held together in a way that required a flat-faced tool to strip – which admittedly saved a few millimetres in overall width for deep concealment – the new GX2 comes with a standard disassembly lever, making tool-less field-strip easier for cleaning and maintenance.

The new Taurus GX2 is built around a black reinforced polymer frame with numerous aggressively stippled contact and indexing points on the grip and above the trigger guard, allowing a firm hold in all conditions; the grip design instinctively drives the shooter's hand to a higher grip, closer to the barrel axis, for better recoil and muzzle climb management; and a built-in MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail allows the installation of tactical accessories.

The Taurus GX2 features a single-action only trigger with a 2,7 kg / 5,9 lbs pull and a 90-degrees break. The GX2 comes with a full set of redundant safety features for total peace of mind in carry and handling, including a "Glock-style" trigger safety, a striker block, and an additional manual safety located on the left side of the frame – "1911-style", you may say – at easy and convenient thumb reach for right-handed shooters, making classic "Condition One" carry possible for those who prefer it.

The steel slide of the new Taurus GX2 pistol features a set of front and rear slide serrations as well as a dovetailed white dot front sight and glare-proof rear sight, both adjustable for windage.

Essential and affordable, the Taurus GX2 does not feature an optics-ready slide like most modern concealed carry pistols do; it is, however, compatible with Glock sights, paving the way for a whole smorgasboard of different high-visibility aftermarket sights or Glock-compatible rear sight dovetail red dot mounting plates.

The new Taurus GX2 feeds through double-stack metal magazines with a polymer flush-fit floorplate, holding up to thirteen rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, plus one in chamber. Magazines are proprietary and the GX2 isn't retro-compatible with any magazine from previous Taurus pistols; each GX2 comes from factory with two magazines.

Standing at 157 mm / 6.19" in overall length and 124 mm / 4.89" in overall width, and at barely 3 cm / 1.18" in overall width, the new Taurus GX2 features a stainless steel 8,5 cm / 3.38" barrel with six right-handed grooves and a 1:10" twist rate, and weighs in at 539 grams (19.04 oz) when empty.

Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Taurus GX2 pistol on the US market is set at $309,99 for the black variant and $324,99 for the stainless slide variant.
