Taurus G3X, the hybrid compact pistol
SHOT Show 2022 - The US-based branch of the Brazilian Forjas Taurus group introduces the G3X 9mm semi-automatic pistol: a hybrid compact, "Crossover" model, designed to be cost-effective and to offer high magazine capacity for personal defense, concealed carry, and home protection
The Taurus G3X 9mm semi-automatic pistol, officially announced by Taurus USA at the 2022 edition of the SHOT Show, is the latest entry in the Company's line of striker-fired, polymer frame pistol debuted in 2019 with the full-size Taurus G3 model and expanded in 2020 with the subcompact Taurus G3c.
Like most handguns that have been introduced on the US commercial market in the past decade or so, the Taurus G3X aims to establish itself as an alternative for personal defense and concealed carry, and as such it offers practical features such as a striker block and a visual loaded chamber indicator.
The Taurus G3X is a hybrid compact, or "Crossover" pistol – a design that matches a compact-size slide and barrel to a full-size frame or grip, making the handgun overall taller but not longer, thus more comfortable to use by larger-handed shooters and capable of using higher-capacity magazines if compared to other compact or subcompact model.
And indeed, the Taurus G3X feeds through double-stack metal magazines with a black polymer floorplate, holding up to fifteen rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition. Two magazines are issued from factory with each G3X.
The Taurus G3X hybrid compact pistol is built around a matte black polymer frame with an integral MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for tactical accessories; it is 16 cm / 6.3" long overall, weighs in at 640 grams / 22.6 oz. when empty, and features a 812 mm / 3.2" barrel.
Other features of the G3X include a single-action trigger with a convenient restrike capability, a trigger safety, and "Glock-style" field-strip.
The machined steel slide of the Taurus G3X features front and rear slide serrations and a full matte black Tenifer protective finish, and hosts a fixed front sight and a drift-adjustable rear sight. Built to be cost-effective, the new Taurus G3X is sold on the US market at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $342,98.
