The Czech-based Laugo Arms company introduces the Alien Remus 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol, a "luxury" defensive pistol variant of the "Alien" design: truly a top notch handgun, superbly engineered and built... and not exactly for everybody's pockets

Officially unveiled on December 23, 2024, the new Laugo Arms Alien Remus 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol is a compact version of the famous Alien pistol launched back in 2023.

Unlike its full-size, competition-oriented counterpart, the new Laugo Arms Alien Remus was intended from the ground up to be a concealed carry and personal protection pistol. Once again, Laugo Arms wanted the Alien Remus to represent an absolute point of excellence for its class, and it is definitely going to be an excellently designed and built firearm, although given the announced retail price – exceeding 5,000€ in Europe and $6,000 in the United States – it is not going to be exactly a handgun for everybody.

Like the full-size Alien, the new Laugo Arms Alien Remus features a steel slide and a two-part frame, composed of an aluminum grip assembly and a steel chassis. The gas delayed blowback system – a modified and perfected version of the Barnitzke system used in some iconic handgun designs of the 20th Century such as the Heckler & Koch P7, the Steyr GB, the Norinco 77B, the Vektor CP1 and the ADP – allows the Alien Remus to feature a fixed 4" barrel, thus improving the inherent accuracy potential of the design.

The fixed barrel and non-locking slide minimize cycle time, allowing for incredibly fast shot cadences while remaining on target, all the while allowin the handgun to offer the lowest bore axis in the world: 1.7mm under under the axis of shooter's grip, making muzzle climb almost imperceptible.

The Alien Remus also features Laugo Arms' signature "hybrid" trigger system – a single-action design with an inverted internal hammer – and comes with a "Glock-style" trigger safety plus a manual flapper-style gold-accented safety lever located on the left side of the slide for those who prefer redundant safety features for additional peace of mind. Even more importantly, the Alien Remus has been engineered to be absolutely drop safe.

Like the full-size, competition-oriented Alien, the Alien Remus also features interchangeable, non-reciprocating top rails hosting the sights. As the sight rails are separate from the slide, they remain remain fixed like the barrel and never move, so that the sight picture never changes and any optical sight is not subject to recoil forces and thus has no chance to lose zero.

In the case of the Alien Remus, the standard sights rail hosting a fiber optic front sight and a fully adjustable rear sight can be replaced with an optics-ready rail that can host Aimpoint ACRO, Shield RMS and Trijicon RMRcc footprint micro red dot sights via a set of adapter plates. The fixed sight rails architecture ensures that iron sights and optics retain zero when the rails are changed.

A gold-accented lever located on top of the optics-ready rail, marked PTR ("Push To Rack"), can be pushed if needed to allow the rail to reciprocate with the slide: this will allow the front window of the micro red dot to be used as a support to rack the slide against a surface should the need arise, eg. to rack the slide or clear a stoppage with one hand in an emergency.

The Laugo Arms Alien Remus feeds through proprietary, double-stack metal magazines holding fifteen rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, but remains compatible with the 17-rounds magazines used by the full-size Laugo Alien.

The magazine well, flared for quick reloads, can be detached from the grip assembly along with the backstrap and grip panels, and replaced with other such components of different styles or sizes.

Standing at 182 mm / 7.2" in overall length, 139 mm / 5.5" in height and barely 33 mm / 1.3" in width, the Laugo Arms Alien Remus weighs in at 825 grams (29.1 oz) when empty. Other features of the Alien Remus include a captivating matte black protected finish on all outer surfaces (exception made for the gold accents on some controls) and a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for tactical accessories machined directly on to the dust cover.

The style and position of the front and rear slide serrations remain the same as on the full-size, competition-oriented Laugo Arms Alien; an effective, ergonomically-friendly design.
