Trijicon MRO: a true miniature rifle optic
A positive compromise between low profile and high performance is possible: the Trijicon company offers the MRO miniature red dot gunsight, offering everything a user expects to find in a high-level red dot sight, but with the advantage of a much lower weight and overall dimensions
In Summer 2015, the Trijicon, Inc. company – a global leader in hunting, sport shooting and tactical optics – first introduced its Miniature Rifle Optic (MRO) 1x red dot gunsight as a response to the increasing popularity of small-sized red dot gunsights on the market. Up to that point, the "Micro Red Dot" sights segment was almost monopolized by Aimpoint's "Micro" series of gunsights – at least when it came to top-tier products truly worth of consideration for high intensity professional (MIL/LE) use.
The MRO red dot sight is particularly versatile for being a standard design, sealed miniature reflex sight, and is just as solid and rugged as civilian shooters and professional operators worldwide came to expect from a brand like Trijicon.
The Trijicon MRO is a 1x25mm miniature red dot sight built around a sealed 7075-T6 aluminum housing with a matte surface anodization and a fogproof nitrogen filling. Trijicon's MRO is truly a miniature gunsight, standing at 66x43x51mm in dimensions (2.6x1.7x2 inch) and being no heavier than 177 grams (6.24 oz.) with battery included. The Trijicon MRO is waterproof to IPX-8 specs, and as such will resist immersion in water up to 30 metres (100ft.) in depth.
The special glass lenses are multi-coated to offer superior levels of scratch resistance and light transmission; the 20,4mm (0.805") clear aperture and the 25mm objective provide for a larger viewing area if compared to most direct competitors – which is meant to reduce the so-called tube effect.
The large, ambidextrous brightness control dial allows the brightness of the 2 MOA red dot to be set on eight different levels – five visible levels and three NVG-compatible modes. The same dial hosts a seat for the single commercial CR2032 Lithium battery that provides power to the Trijicon MRO. If the brightness level is set to intermediate power (position 5), a single battery can provide up to five years of continuous runtime.
The ½ MOA per click, 70 MOA adjustment adjusters for elevation and windage are surface-flush to prevent snagging and ensure against inadvertent loss of zero. A small, flat tool is required to operate them.
Trijicon currently manufactures three different mounts for the MRO miniature rifle optic: a low mount adapter, a full co-witness mount adapter and a lower 1/3 co-witness mount adapter. The Trijicon MRO, however, quickly became so popular on the U.S. market that today several third parties offer specialized mounting solutions for this versatile red dot sight.
In the United States, the Trijicon MRO miniature red dot gunsight is sold at $579 without a mount and $629 with a Trijicon mount; the mounts themselves retail separately at $50.00 (low mount adapter) and $60.00 (full co-witness mount and lower 1/3 co-witness mount adapters).
In Europe, the MRO retails at €699,00; the mounts retail independently at €63,99 (low mount adapter) and €76,99 (full co-witness mount and lower 1/3 co-witness mount adapters).
