SIG Next 2026: SIG Sauer USA Company Overview
A visual journey at the SIG Sauer USA, during SIG NEXT 2026. A well-known firearms manufacturer, SIG Sauer has evolved into one of the most important players within the global defense and sporting industry

The story of SIG Sauer USA began in 1853 in Neuhausen, Switzerland, as the Schweizerische Waggonfabrik (Swiss Wagon Factory). After winning a contract to build rifles for the Swiss Army, the company evolved into a premier arms manufacturer, under the name of SIG (Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft). To bypass strict European export laws, it partnered with German gunmaker J.P. Sauer & Sohn in the 1970s, establishing the international SIG Sauer brand.
Recognizing the massive potential of the American market, the company made its official leap across the Atlantic in January 1985 by founding SIGARMS Inc. in Tysons Corner, Virginia. Originally operating as an importer and distributor, its primary goal was to bring renowned handguns - such as the P220 and P230 - to U.S. law enforcement agencies and civilian shooters.
Driven by surging demand, SIGARMS relocated in 1990 to Exeter, New Hampshire, where it began transitioning from importing to local manufacturing. Rebranded as SIG Sauer, Inc. in 2007, this humble U.S. import venture transformed into a powerhouse American defense manufacturer, laying the groundwork for the modern enterprise that equips law enforcement agencies and the U.S. military today.
SIG Sauer Manufacturing facilities in Rochester, New Hampshire (USA)

Driven by unprecedented growth and monumental military contracts like the U.S. Army's Modular Handgun System (M17/M18), in 2020 SIG Sauer significantly expanded its New Hampshire footprint with a sprawling manufacturing campus in Rochester.
Spanning over 35 acres, this state-of-the-art complex encompasses up to 210,000 square feet of production and operational space.
The acquisition of this multi-building campus allowed SIG Sauer to relocate its former Dover operations and massively scale its overall capabilities. Today, the high-tech Rochester facility serves as a vital cornerstone of the company’s domestic manufacturing network. It houses cutting-edge precision machining, advanced automation, and modern assembly lines designed to meet the soaring global demand for their advanced weapon systems.
By heavily investing in the Rochester site, SIG Sauer reinforced its commitment to domestic engineering and local economic development. The facility stands as a critical production engine, ensuring the rapid, high-quality delivery of next-generation defense platforms, optics, and civilian firearms worldwide.
SIG Sauer Assembly facilities

Located in Newington, New Hampshire, SIG Sauer’s corporate headquarters doubles as a world-class manufacturing and assembly powerhouse. Spanning approximately 150,000 square feet of state-of-the-art production space, this ISO 9001-certified facility is the birthplace of some of the world's most popular firearms, including the revolutionary P365 micro-compact, the military-adopted P320 platform, and the advanced MCX rifle series.
The Newington plant is a testament to modern engineering, moving far beyond traditional armories. It features highly automated assembly lines, precision robotics machining components around the clock, and integrated quality control devices that automatically verify specifications in real time. Notably, the intricate Fire Control Units (FCUs) at the heart of the modular P320 are manufactured here using impressively advanced automated lines.
By merging cutting-edge industrial robotics with rigorous human oversight, the Newington assembly facility seamlessly scales production without sacrificing precision. Capable of producing over a million firearms annually, this flagship location solidifies SIG Sauer’s capacity to rapidly supply civilian, law enforcement, and military markets worldwide.
Because SIG Sauer produces firearms for commercial, law enforcement, and military clients, firearms undergo strict quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) protocols, including Automated Function Checking, where specialized machine verification tools automatically measure trigger pull weights, safety engage/disengage distances, reset lengths, and slide travel specs alongside manual tech checks.
But obviously, along with the machines there is a continuous work of checking performed by operators: every technician on the assembly line acts as an inspector, continuously inspecting both their own work and the preceding step before passing the firearm along.

The SIG Sauer headquarter drives operations across the civilian, military, and law enforcement sectors. The modern facility accommodates both the executive and the administrative professionals who manage the company's vast portfolio, and it also houses a massive brain trust of industry experts and research teams, with some 500 engineers dedicated to the development of advanced weapon systems, electro-optics, suppressors, and ammunition.
By centralizing its core leadership and design capabilities in Newington, SIG Sauer ensures seamless integration between its rapid product development and its advanced manufacturing network. This ISO 9001-certified headquarters stands as a clear symbol of the company's commitment to continuous innovation, blending American ingenuity with global market dominance.
Ron Cohen, CEO of SIG Sauer
Ron Cohen took the helm as CEO of SIG Sauer in 2005, arriving at a time when the firearms manufacturer was sputtering with tiny profit margins and relying heavily on German-made parts. He immediately started transforming the company by overhauling its operational focus, aggressively expanding manufacturing within the United States, and driving ambitious mass production goals. Under his leadership, SIG Sauer rapidly evolved from a traditional gunmaker into a global defense contractor.
Cohen’s vision for the company is expansive. He views SIG Sauer as being on a "mission to change the world" by building what matters, continuously innovating across firearms, ammunition, optics, and advanced defense technologies. He envisions the organization as the singular picture of readiness, fully equipped to support military and law enforcement partners.
Central to his strategy is a profound, deeply personal commitment to the people working at SIG Sauer. Cohen champions a corporate culture rooted in community and integrity, frequently emphasizing that a company is only as strong as the passion of its workforce. For Cohen, building firearms and defense systems is not merely a manufacturing job; it is a critical responsibility that demands unwavering dedication and heart. He firmly believes that when workers inject genuine passion into their daily tasks, it directly elevates the quality, safety, and reliability of the final product.
To cultivate this passionate environment, Cohen prioritizes investing in the workforce through internal mobility and hands-on training. He also places a special emphasis on military veterans, actively helping them seamlessly transition into purposeful civilian careers where their unique skills, dedication, and profound understanding of the end-user are highly valued.
The CEO Ron Cohen never holds back when it comes to presenting the SIG Sauer company philosophy to occasional professional visitors coming from all over the World
The SIG Sauer Headquarter in Newington also hosts the Indoor Test Range, where ALL firearms are tested before shipping
At SIG Sauer's Newington manufacturing plant, quality control includes a rigorous live-fire testing process for every single firearm before it is approved for shipping. The testing process is conducted internally, inside the facility’s specialized, high-tech and incredibly equipped indoor test ranges, where SIG Sauer trained technicians take each newly assembled gun and live-fire it to verify its operational integrity, safety, and reliability.
This hands-on process confirms that the trigger mechanism, feeding, extraction, and overall function meet SIG Sauer's strict performance standards. After successfully passing this live-fire validation, each firearm is cleared, inspected, and securely boxed, ensuring that every product reaching a customer has been functionally proven on the factory floor.
The Newington facility also houses a showroom that provides a comprehensive overview of SIG Sauer’s product range.
