Ruger Security-380: a new subcompact pistol for personal defense
Ruger introduces the new Security-380 subcompact semi-automatic pistol for personal defense and concealed carry, offering a more than acceptable capacity of ten or fifteen rounds and a new Lite Rack slide
Sturm, Ruger & Co. – one of America's biggest players in the field of hunting, sport shooting, and defensive firearms for commercial sales – continues to remain committed to the personal protection and concealed carry pistols market, which has been increasingly expanding in the United States in the past decade.
Freshly introduced in north America, the Ruger Security-380 .380 ACP semi-automatic pistol is a perfect example of such commitment.
The Security-380 is a subcompact, concealed carry-oriented variant of the well known Ruger Security-9 line of pistols, reduced in both size and caliber, being chambered in .380 ACP – which is softer-shooting, more controllable and cheaper than 9mm Luger, and potentially just as effective in your average defensive encounters, particularly if the right ammunition is used.
Just like the Security-9 series, the new Security-380 utilizes Ruger's safe, reliable and proven "Secure Action" fire-control system that combines a protected internal hammer, a trigger blade safety, and a frame-mounted manual safety at easy thumb reach on the left side. The trigger has a short, smooth pull, clean break and positive reset.
The new Ruger Security-380 is considerably smaller than all previous entries in the Security-9 line, standing at 16,5 cm / 6.52" in overall length, featuring a 8,6 cm / 3.42" barrel, and weighing in at barely 558 grams (19.7 oz).
Like all the Security-9 series pistols, the new Ruger Security-380 features a one-piece, precision-machined fire control chassis embedded into a textured high-performance, glass-filled nylon grip frame with accessory rail.
Safety features also include a neutrally balanced sear with significant engagement and strong spring tension, and a catch that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled.
The "Lite Rack" oxide-black, through-hardened alloy steel slide features refined slide serrations, pronounced cocking ears and a lighter recoil spring for easy slide manipulation, as well as a drift-adjustable steel rear sight with a vertical edge and a bright, fiber optic front sight for improved visibility.
Each Ruger Security-380 pistol comes issued from factory with two double-stack steel alloy magazines holding ten or fifteen rounds of .380 ACP ammunition, all featuring an extended black reinforced Nylon pad to fit comfortably in even the biggest hands and better distribute recoil during practice.
The new Ruger Security-380 is available on the US commercial market at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $369,00. No information concerning international availability or pricing has been made available so far; potential international customers shall address to their national authorized Ruger distributor for additional information concerning local availability and pricing.
