Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter straight-pull lightweight hunting rifle
The highly regarded Savage arms Impulse line of straight-pull rifles expands with the launch of the Mountain Hunter model, built around a polymer stock and a lightweight alloy receiver coupled to a carbon fiber wrapped barrel to keep the overall weight under drastically low levels
Savage Arms announced the expansion of its line of Impulse straight-pull rifles with the launch of the Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter model: a variant specifically designed for mountain hunting and more generally speaking for all those hunting specialties that require high mobility and thus demand the use of lightweight guns that would be easy to carry for long distances and just as quick and easy to bring to bear on your quarry.
Built around a polymer stock, a lightweight aluminum alloy action, and a 55 cm / 22" or 60 cm / 24" Proof Research carbon-wrapped stainless steel barrel depending on the caliber, the Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter manages to stand at 3,3 kilograms (7.31 lb) when empty, in all its iterations.
Just like all the models in the Impulse line, the new Mountain Hunter variant features Savage's own, patented Hexlock straight-pull action, with an easily removable bolt head and six heavy stainless steel ball bearings dubbing as locking lugs. As the bolt handle is fully closed on the Hexlock action, a plunger is seated forward in the interior of the bolt body, forcing the ball bearings outward to lock into a machined recess in the barrel extension.
As a round is fired, the ball bearings tighten relative to pressure increase and provide a robust lockup for safety; the strength of Hexlock allows the rifle to handle Magnum cartridges and high-pressure rounds.
As pressure subsides and the bolt is ready to be cycled, operating the bolt handle will cause the plunger to recede and release the ball bearings, allowing the action to be opened. The bolt handle is multi-positional, meaning that its inclination can be changed to fit any shooter's favorite shooting style, and can be removed and reinstalled on the left side of the bolt body to easily adapt the Impulse rifle to left-handed or right-handed shooters alike.
The Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter straight-pull rifle also features a protected 5/8-24 threaded muzzle, allowing the use of accessories such as muzzle brakes, flash hiders, or sound suppressors where legal.
Other features of the Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter straight-pull rifle include a sliding two-position top tang manual safety; a single-piece 20 MOA Picatinny top rail for optics; and a barrel retaining nut system that makes barrels easily interchangeable.
The matte grey AccuStock of the Impulse Mountain Hunter rifle features a solid pillar bedding system with three aluminum pillars for maximum stability, and allows length of pull and cheek riser height to be customized through a set of interchangeable inserts.
Also featured from factory on the new Impulse Mountain Hunter is the patented Savage Arms AccuTrigger, whose break the user can manually adjust between 680 grams (1.5 lbs) and 1,8 kilograms (4 lbs).
The Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter straight-pull lightweight rifle is available in nine popular hunting calibers; .308 Winchester; 28 Nosler; .30-06 Springfield; .300 Winchester Magnum; .300 Winchester Short Magnum; 6.5 Creedmoor; 6.5 PRC; 7mm PRC; and 7mm Remington Magnum.
Standing at 113 to 118 cm (44.¾" to 46.¾") in overall length, depending on the barrel, the Impulse Mountain Hunter rifle feeds through Savage Arms' proprietary detachable magazines. A single magazine is issued with each rifle, offering an overall capacity of two, three, or four rounds – plus one in chamber – depending on the caliber.
The Savage Arms Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter straight-pull lightweight hunting rifle is currently being distributed on the US market at a suggested retail price of $2.437,00 in all calibers and barrel lengths.
