Savage Arms distributes the Stevens 334 budget bolt-action rifle
First showcased at the 2023 edition of SHOT Show, the Stevens 334 bolt-action hunting rifles are finally reaching Savage Arms distributors worldwide: available in two stock versions, two barrel lengths and three calibers, they're the perfect budget-friendly hunting or ranch rifle you were looking for!
Officially introduced at the 2023 edition of SHOT Show, the new Stevens 334 Walnut and Stevens 334 Synthetic budget-priced, entry-level bolt-action hunting rifles are finally being shipped to retailers across north America and to Savage Arms distributors worldwide.
The J.Stevens Arms brand, established in 1864, was first incorporated by the Savage Arms company in 1920, and starting in 1999 it has been used to label the most cost-effective line of Savage Arms products: shotguns and rifles for hunting, sport shooting, and sometimes home defence, offering decent levels of quality and performance at an affordable price, ideal for first-time gun owners, as training rifles for the younger generations of shooters, and as reliable backup or truck guns for the more experienced outdoorsmen.

A perfect example of this philosophy, the Stevens 334 rifles are built around a simple black carbon steel action and come with either a black synthetic or a Turkish walnut stock. The two variants share the same action, with the only difference being the finish of the bolt proper – matte black on the Synthetic model, chromed on the Walnut model.
The 60-degrees bolt throw makes the Stevens 334 quicker in follow-up shots; a three-position manual safety is located on the right side of the action, right behind the bolt handle, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for optics mounts, with a Savage M110 spacing), and comes from factory with a steel MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail.

The barrel of the Stevens 334 rifles is free-floating, button-rifled out of matte black carbon steel for consistent accuracy, and features an 11° target crown at the muzzle. Depending on the caliber, the Stevens 334 is available with a 55,8 cm / 22" barrel with a 1:8" twist rate, or a 50,8 cm / 20" with a 1:10" or 1:11" twist rate.
As of today, the Stevens 334 rifles are available in three calibers: .308 Winchester, .243 Winchester, and 6.5 Creedmoor. All variants feed through proprietary detachable single-stack three-rounds magazines.
Standing at 104,7 cm / 41" or 108,9 cm / 43" and weighing in at approximately 3,4 kilograms (7.2 to 7.4 lbs) depending on the variant, the Stevens 334 bolt-action rifles also feature a set of two sturdy sling swivel studs; an ergonomic stock, with slip-proof checkered surfaces on the grip and handguard and a rubberized recoil pad; an integrated recoil lug to the receiver; and a surprisingly crisp trigger to match.
The Stevens 334 Walnut and Stevens 334 Synthetic bolt-action rifles are currently available on the US commercial market at a manufacturer's suggested retail price ranging between $389.00 and $489.00, depending on the model.
The retail price in Europe, as of today, is closer to the 600 € mark – which still puts them in the low price bracket, perhaps too low for their actual quality level.
