Taurus 850 snubnose concealed carry revolver
Taurus reintroduces the 850 series of .38 Special concealed carry revolver, a full steel hammerless variant now featuring a 2-inch or 3-inch barrel

The new Taurus 850 .38 Special series of revolvers, recently reintroduced in the United States, embodies the effort by the Brazilian-based Forjas Taurus company and their north-American subsidiary Taurus USA to revive and revitalize the position of small-size, snubnose revolvers on a market – the US market, specifically – which for the past decade has been shifting its center focus from modern sporting rifles towards concealed carry handguns, particularly after a series of landmark rulings by the Supreme Court of the United States caused the liberalization of concealed carry laws even in the hitherto most restrictive States, Counties, and cities.
The direct successor of the Taurus 85 and 850 CIA series of revolvers – pocket snubnose models that were a staple of Taurus production for years before being sent out of production back in 2017 – the new Taurus 850 is built around a matte black alloy steel or fully stainless steel frame and comes with a 5 cm / 2" or 7,5 cm / 3" barrel, a 1:16.½" right-handed twist rate, and a five-shots cylinder compatible with pre-existing speedloaders and holsters for other popular snubnose revolvers.

All the Taurus 850 revolvers feature a fluid, smooth double-action only trigger and a fully bobbed, enclosed hammer within the frame, thus streamlining the design to reduce printing and eliminate sharp edges that could cause the revolver to snag on the user's clothes when drawing.

Additionally, the new Taurus 850 revolvers come with a black synthetic, rounded grip featuring slip-proof checkered surfaces on the panel and backstrap, and front finger grooves; the rear sight is machined on top of the frame, while the front serrated flare-proof sight is pinned to the barrel shroud and can be removed and replaced with other compatible front sights at the shooter's will.
Standing at 17,5 cm / 7.66" or approximately 21 cm / 8.66" in overall length depending on barrel configuration, the new Taurus 850 revolvers weigh in at 644 grams (22.75 oz.) when empty, on average. The manufacturer's suggested retail on the US market is extremely enticing: barely $424.99 for both matte black versions and $439.99 for stainless versions.
