Officially announced on July 11 by Taurus USA – the north American branch of the Forjas Taurus S.A. group – the new Taurus 817 .38 Special small-sized revolver is manufactured in Brazil and dedicated specifically to meet the needs and demands that move today's market for concealed carry and personal defense firearms.

A redesign of Taurus' own titanium-built 817 Ultra-Lite and glossy stainless RT-817 models launched years ago, the new Taurus 817 revolver is manufactured entirely out of stainless steel with a full matte stainless finish, and features a double-action trigger with a fully exposed, knurled hammer allowing manual cocking for single-action shooting if need be.

The Taurus 817 is chambered in .38 Special – still one of the most popular calibers for concealed carry, defensive-oriented revolvers over a century after its first launch – and is fully certified to fire high-pressure +P loads, ensuring a long service life and allowing the use of high-power ammunition for daily carry and low-pressure, lower cost loads for target practice.

The new Taurus 817 revolver comes from factory with a soft black rubberized grip that can easily be removed and swapped with all grip models compatible with the Taurus Tracker and Judge series of revolvers, either made by Taurus or by any one of the many third party and aftermarket suppliers in the business.

The Taurus 817 also comes issued from factory with a rear sight and sighting tunnel machined on top of the frame, and with a fixed glare-proof black front post that's pinned to the barrel shroud and can likewise be removed and replaced with any Taurus 856 series compatible front sight.

The key feature of the Taurus 817, however, is its capacity: with a 7-rounds cylinder, this diminutive Brazilian revolver – standing at 20 cm / 8" in overall length, featuring a 5 cm / 2" barrel and weighing in at 857 grams / 30.26 oz when empty – offers two rounds more than most competitors of the same size.

The MSRP on the new Taurus 817 revolver is set at $648.99 on the US market; for availability and pricing outside of the United States, consult the authorized Taurus distributor for your Country. For further information, visit the official Taurus USA website.
