Smith & Wesson introduces the Bodyguard 2.0 .380 ACP: a new slimline, hard-hitting micro-compact pistol for personal defense and concealed carry

Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0, the new ultimate micro pistol

Officially introduced on the US market on July 16 as the "Ultimate Micro Pistol", the new Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 .380 ACP semi-automatic pistol is the designated heir of the M&P Bodyguard .380 that's been a staple of Smith & Wesson's production for fourteen years, ever since its first introduction at the 2010 SHOT Show.

Like its predecessor, Smith & Wesson's new Bodyguard 2.0 is a concealed carry oriented semi-automatic pistol built around a reinforced black polymer frame and chambered for the ubiquitous .380 ACP cartridge.

However, the new Bodyguard 2.0 is not only different from its predecessors in terms of ergonomics and design – now more akin to that of the M&P pistols – but ditches the first Bodyguard's internal hammer-fired, double-action only trigger in favor of a striker-fired light double action trigger, which is lighter, shorter and overall better.

At the moment of its launch, the new Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 is available in two variants: the Bodyguard 2.0 NTS, with a flat-face trigger and a "Glock-style" trigger safety; and the Bodyguard 2.0 TS, which adds further peace of mind with an ambidextrous frame-mounted manual safety at easy and convenient thumb reach, particularly for those users who are familiar with the M1911-A1 layout.

Both models feed through proprietary, double-stack metal magazines available in two variants: flush-fit, holding up to ten rounds of .380 ACP; and extended, holding twelve rounds and offering a better grip to bigger-handed shooters.

The 7 cm / 2.¾" barrel of the new Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 is manufactured out of stainless steel and features a matte black Armornite finish; same goes for the slide, whose aggressive design makes it easier to grab and rack in stressful situations. Other features include front and rear slide serrations, a U-notch rear sight, and tritium front post.

Standing at approximately 14 cm / 5.5" in overall length and 11 cm / 4" in height, the newSmith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 is barely 2,2 cm / 0.88" wide and weighs in at just 277 grams (9.8 oz) when empty: an absolutely diminutive package, effortless and basically printless to carry concealed while packing a substantial punch and firepower, particularly when used with 12-rounds magazines and defense-oriented loads.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the new Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 pistol in the United States is set at $499 for both variants; for information concerling local availability and pricing outside of the United States, consult your local Smith & Wesson distributor.
