Kimber 2K11: the new factory custom 1911 pistol
Kimber launches the 2K11 pistol series, available in 9mm Luger and .45 ACP, offering custom features and high capacity for tactical, service, defensive, and sporting purposes
Introduced to the US market on November 22, the new Kimber 2K11 semi-automatic pistol represents Kimber's latest foray in the 2011 platform; for the (very few, hopefully!) who don't know, the 2011 platform consists in a 1911 pistol redesigned around a wider grip and frame to accommodate a double-stack magazine, offering additional ammunition capacity.
Available in two versions – dubbed the 2K11 OR and the 2K11 Target respectively – and in 9mm Luger or .45 ACP, Kimber's new 2K11 pistol comes from factory with a wide array of custom-grade features, making perfect right out of the box for personal, home and property protection; duty and tactical applications for private security, law enforcement, military and special operation units; and competition shooting, chiefly practical shooting in all its variations..
Kimber's new 2K11 pistols are all built around a matte black physical vapor deposition (PVD) finish, manufactured out of stainless steel and fitted with a separate lightweight aluminum alloy grip with a matte black MIL-A-8625 Type III hard anodized finish.
All variants feature a built-in MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for accessories, an ambidextrous frame-mounted manual safety, and a single-action trigger with a skeletonized hammer and aluminum GT trigger, breaking crisply and cleanly at 3.5 pounds.
The standard Kimber 2K11 OR model features a beveled magazine well for faster reloads, which on the 2K11 Target model is replaced by a Stan Chen Customs competition magwell designed and manufactured specifically for Kimber.
The slide of the 2K11 pistol is once again manufacured out of stainless steel, with a black or coyote diamond-like carbon (DLC) finish, an external extractor, and custom 2K11 serrations. The Target model also comes with porting holes on both sides. Additionally, all models come with a green or red fiber optic TAG FiberLok 2 front sight.
The rear sight – fixed on the 2K11 OR model, fully adjustable for competitions on the 2K11 Target variant – is built in on the protective plate of a C&H Precision optics interface machined on to the slide. A set of adapters allows the use of popular micro red dot sights such as the Aimpoint ACRO, Holosun 509T, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Shield RMSc, and Trijicon RMR.
Other features of the Kimber 2K11 pistols include a matte black or coyote PVD finished, ramped, highly polished and fluted stainless steel 5" barrel, with a left-hand 5R rifling pattern and a 1:10" twist rate in 9mm Luger or 1:16" twist rate in .45 ACP; and a patent-pending tool-less guide rod for the 16 lbs recoil spring.
Each Kimber 2K11 pistol comes from factory with three double-stack magazines, holding thirteen rounds in .45 ACP and seventeen to twenty rounds in 9mm Luger.
Standing at 21,7 cm / 8.56" in all variants and weighing in at approximately 1,1 kilograms (8 lbs) with an empty magazine, the new Kimber 2K11 pistol is sold on the US market at a MSRP of $1,995.00 for the OR model in 9mm Luger and $2,125.00 for the same variant in .45 ACP; the 2K11 Target is available at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $2,495.00 or $2,595.00, once again depending on the caliber.
The Kimber 2K11 Target pistol is also available in a Target OI setup, coming issued from factory with a Trijicon SRO micro red dot sight; the 2K11 Target OI is available only in 9mm Luger (so far) and sells at a MSRP of $3,095.00 in the US.
