Cabot Guns "The Ultimate Bedside 1911"
The marketing sector of the modern-day gun industry may tend to make an excessive use of the term "ultimate", but The Ultimate Bedside 1911 by Cabot Guns is just that: ultimate!
The name of the Cabot Gun Company should sound familiar to most of our readers and followers, and will definitely conjure feelings of respect and desire among all true 1911 pistol Aficionados out there.
Headquartered in Pennsylvania (USA) and helmed by Italian-American entrepreneour Rob Bianchin, Cabot Guns is dedicated to the manufacture of "better than custom" 1911 pistols.
Each Cabot Guns creation is unique in terms of materials, craftmanship, and looks. True masterpieces, worthy every penny of their (hefty) price tag, the Cabot Guns are however no safe queens, having proven their worth in competition multiple times.
Every new product launched by Cabot Guns seems aimed to impose new canons of beauty, functionality, style, elegance and perfection to the 1911 pistols segment.
"The Ultimate Bedside 1911" makes no exception: where other pistols, including several of Cabot's own, focus on being an ideal choice for daily carry, range, or competition, The Ultimate Bedside 1911 sets out to first and foremost provide the best available protection by night. And does so with style.
Technically speaking there isn't much that can be said about The Ultimate Bedside 1911, because at heart, it is a standard 1911 pistol design: a tilting-barrel, Browning-system semi-automatic pistol, it comes with a standard single-action trigger and feeds through single-stack magazines holding seven or eight rounds of .45 ACP or 9mm ammunition.
The grip panels are manufactured out of black G10 – optionally available in ebony – and are fastened to the grip by a set of Allen screws. All variants feature a Cabot Guns emblem medallion and are engraved in a descending curved pattern inspired by the Fibonacci spiral.
Along with the rhombus cut checking on the front strap and main spring housing, the Fibonacci-engraved grips provide what the company calls a "positive tactile engagement" for a palm-to-frame feel that’s sure not to slip. The magazine well is beveled and chamfered for easier reloading, even in the dark.
Of course, there is a whole lot of difference between the key components of just any 1911 and a Cabot Guns 1911. The Ultimate Bedside 1911 comes with a 5-inch National Match grade, crowned flush barrel featuring a hand-polished feed ramp and a lowered and flared ejection port, that's precision-manufactured through last-generation CNC machineries just as all other steel components of this gun.
The guide rod features a prominent star engraving on front and hosts a 16.5 lbs (approx. 7,5 kg) Wolff variable recoil spring. The left-side mounted frame thumb safety and the beavertail grip safety are machined from billet, and so is the radiused precision-fit aluminum TriStar trigger, fitting perfectly the pad of the human finger and enabling a smooth and consistent trigger pull. Other small components are manufactured through EDM wire, EDM sink or CNC surface grinding.
The key element of The Ultimate Bedside 1911 pistol by Cabot Guns is definitely the Damasteel steel slide. Machined from billet steel and featuring Cabot Guns' own, durable proprietary high contrast damascus finish described by the Company as "a more modern, tougher iteration of a time-tested process".
The Cabot Guns logo is etched on both sides of the slide, right behind the rear stripe serrations. Low-Mount type fixed front and rear sights are standard issue; tritium sights or an adjustable rear sight are available as optional.
The frame is also machined from billet 416 steel, and features a black nitride finish as well as in-house constructed frame-integrated accessory rail; a SureFire X300U tactical gunlight is available as an optional factory feature for The Ultimate Bedside 1911 pistol.
While, as we said earlier, the word "Ultimate" is quite inflated in the modern gun marketing panorama, the term "Masterpiece" can actually apply to only a very few cases – particularly when it comes to guns conceived to be practical and useful other than "just" a beauty to behold.
Only a few guns can be nothing short of a work of art while at the same time being able to offer outstanding performance, reliability and solidity even after thousands and thousands of rounds are put through it.
The Cabot Guns 1911 pistols are among them – and The Ultimate Bedside 1911 represents a pinnacle under this point of view: a bedside gun that will keep you safe and sound at night and will also make for a relished, much appreciated heirloom to pass on for generations to come. A must-have for a selected few, a heartfelt object of desire for most.
In Europe, the Cabot Guns brand is distributed by Erredi Trading.
