Variante desert dell’Extrema Ratio BD4 Lucky, versione civile del pugnale BD2 Contractor, con lo stesso design filante e una lama a filo singolo

The Extrema Ratio BD4 Lucky Desert is a single edged tactical folding knife offering a lot in a comparatively small and light package derived from the BD2 Contractor model.

The “laurel leaf” elongated spearpoint shape blade is made in Böhler N690 steel hardened to 58 HRC, with a length of 123 mm (4.84”) and 3mm (0.11”) thick, showing the same plain edge with the last 20mm (0.78”) towards the heel carrying fine serrations, but it’s sharpened on one side only, the other side sporting a 1/3 length false edge while the bevels go all the height of the blade up to the flat spine, adding strength for cutting work.

While still easing the cutting of rough materials such as a rope, the short length of serrated edge does not come in the way of more clean cutting action from the rest of the plainly sharpened blade.

The Extrema Ratio BD4 Lucky Desert adopts the same two-pronged guard of the BD2 Contractor model, which protects the hand of the user and serves as flipper opening for the blade which, when closed, is encased by the fine anticorodal alloy handle, milled to the usual firm’s styling with a concave section near the guard offering additional purchase on the handle’s surface and with twin spherical hollows on the sides that further lighten the knife and help grip changes after extracting the knife. The blade is locked by a liner lock system that allows one-handed opening and closing.

With an overall length of 280mm (11.02”) this is not a small knife, but a full-sized blade meant to offer a formidable weapon for close quarters self-defense and a useful length of blade for light field work in a comparatively compact package thanks to the folder design.

As with the Contractor, great attention has been paid to keeping the Lucky as light as possible, which is reflected in a weight of 173g (4.83 oz). Even the clip, which provides a deep pocket carry that leaves almost none of the knife in sight, has been lightened by staggered holes to limit weight.

Impressive when open, the Lucky can still be effective even closed, when the T shape formed by grip and double pronged guard can be used as kubotan or baton for less-than-lethal self-defense scenarios.

The knife is available in Desert color with stone washed blade, or in black, with a MIL-C-13924 finish.
