FK Brno PSD: the powerful multicaliber pistol
IWA 2019 – FK Brno, the Czech company known for its proprietary 7,5 FK pistol/ammunition platform, introduced the FK Brno PSD pistol, a new polymer-frame version of the design reduced in size and offering caliber interchangeability
Introduced at IWA 2019, the FK Brno PSD semi-automatic pistol is the latest variant of the already well known FK Brno Combat Field Pistol and Sport Field Pistol that the Czech-based manufacturer has been offering for a few years now, adopted by several special units in various countries.
Built around the same proprietary recoil and muzzle climb mitigation system, the FK Brno PSD was however conceived to be lighter, cheaper and more practical than its predecessors.
The FK Brno PSD pistol features a non-railed, black polymer frame with slip-proof contact surfaces on the grip, a shorter barrel (136 mm /5.3”) and a lightened, dark gray nitride-treated steel slide. Several sights options are available, including an optics-ready.
The main feature of the new FK Brno PSD pistol, however, is the caliber interchangeability system: chambered from factory in the proprietary high-performance 7,5 FK caliber, the PSD pistol is issued with a replacement barrel allowing the user to convert it to fire 9x19mm Luger or 10mm Auto ammunition.
Only one replacement barrel – 9mm or 10mm – is issued with each FK Brno PSD pistol, with the caliber left to the customer’s choice, with the possibility to buy also the third barrel/caliber in a second moment. The proprietary recoil and muzzle climb mitigation system, whose effectiveness has been proven with the proprietary 7,5 FK caliber, should make standard 9mm and 10mm loads a breeze to shoot.
The new FK Brno PSD pistol is 233 mm (5.75”) long overall, for a total weight of 1,1 kilogram (38.8 oz); it remains compatible with all the accessories developed by FK Brno for its predecessor – including the peculiar collapsible stock – and offers a maximum magazine capacity of 16 rounds. FK Brno plans to make it available on the international commercial markets in a few months, at a retail price point much lower than that of the previous models.
