The Maserin cutlery of Italy wins big at the 2021 edition of the Blade Show, with their new D-DUT and Solar folding pocket knives win respectively the 2021 Blade Award for the most innovative imported design and collaboration of the year!
The return of the Blade Show – held in Atlanta in early June after a one-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic – has been positive for the Maserin cutleries of Italy: the Maserin D-DUT and Maserin Solar folding pocket knives, two of the Company's newest products for 2021, won the coveted Blade Awards respectively as the Most Innovative Imported Design and Collaboration of the Year, bestowed by the well-known and respected Blade magazine.
Maserin 405 Solar
The Maserin 405 Solar folding pocket knife is a frame-lock, Wharncliffe-blade "gentleman's knife" with a Carson Flipper, ball bearing-assisted opening system; elegant and streamlined, with clean-cut and sleek lines, the Maserin Solar was designed by Italian masker knifemaker Sergio Consoli.
The 105 mm / 4.13" long, 3,5 mm / .13" thick blade is manufactured out of D2 steel, heat-treated to a hardness level of HRC 58/61 and satin-finished. The Maserin Solar knife is 235 mm / 9.¼" long overall with its blade unfolded and weighs in at barely 130 grams (4.58 oz.). The locking liner is manufactured out of the same heat-treated D2 steel used for the blade.
The grips of the Maserin Solar knife are instead machined out of a solid titanium billet and feature a full grey anodization and a set of elegant serrations on both ends, allowing for a secure and firm grip in most conditions which is tantamount to precision in cutting.
The belt clip and all screws and small components are also manufactured out of titanium, and stand out on the grey surface of the grips and the satin finish of the blade by their eye-catching, aesthetically pleasurable light blue anodized finish.
The Maserin Solar folding pocket knife is sold in its homeland of Italy at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 248 euro (approximately $295.00 at the current exchange rate); a custom text – 20 characters max. – can be ordered to the company upon purchase for a small surcharge (10€/12$).
Maserin 214 D-DUT
The Maserin 214 D-DUT folding pocket knife is a compact multi-tool for everyday carry, camping, utility, professional and outdoor uses, designed for Maserin by Bonus Media – a small company owned and operated by Alex Olivetto, a designer based in the same northern Italian town of Maniago where the Maserin cutleries have their headquarters.
The Maserin D-DUT is 145 mm / 5.7" long with the blade open, and weighs in at barely 85 grams / 2.99 oz.; the 3mm thick, liner-lock blade is manufactured out of 440C steel, heat-treated to a hardness level of HRC 58/60, and features a full stone-washed finish. Other features of the D-DUT knife are a flat-head screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a piercer, a reamer, and a sewing eye: all you may need for the small, on-the-go fixing jobs you may have to do in your daily life.
The grips of the Maserin D-DUT folding pocket knife is machined out of hard-anodized aluminum, it's available in black, green or red, and features a dynamic and captivating series of engraved circles on both sides. The locking liners, all accessories and the screws that keep the D-DUT together are manufactured of the same steel and feature the same protective finish as the blade.
The Maserin D-DUT comes without a pocket clip, but the sewing eye can dub as a lanyard or pocket cord loop. This small, useful multi-tool is already available on the European market at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 82 euro (just under 88 US$ at the current exchange rate), and just like the Solar, the D-DUT can be ordered from the Maserin website with a custom engraving of maximum 20 letters, with a 10€ / 12$ surcharge.
