Mossberg new products for 2016
O.F. Mossberg & Sons, one of America's most respected gunmakers, introduced several new hunting, sport shooting, and tactical shotguns and rifles this year
Established in 1919, O.F. Mossberg & Sons is the oldest family-owned and operated firearms company in America, and a common household name among gun enthusiasts: its hunting, sport shooting and tactical/defensive-oriented rifles, carbines and shotguns are prized by millions worldwide, and its M500 and M590 lines of pump-action 12-gauge shotguns are used by more military units and Police forces that anyone could think of. In 2016, the Company is adding a plethora of exciting new products to its extensive line-up of rifles and shotguns.
Mossberg 500 ATI Scorpion
This sleek-looking, multi-functional shotgun combines all of the time-tested features of the 500 pump-action shotgun with the ATI T2 TactLite 6-Position adjustable stock, Scorpion recoil-reducing rubber grip and rear pad; ATI Halo Heatshield; and ATI Halo Side Saddle. This unprecedented accessorized-version of the Mossberg 500 is available exclusively in the United States through the TALO Distributors, Inc. group.
The legendary 500 pump-action platform is designed for smooth, reliable operation and features non-binding twin action bars; positive steel-to-steel lock-up; an anti-jam elevator; and dual extractors. Its lightweight, anodized aluminum receiver provides for added durability and better balance. And for ease of operation, the 500 ATI Scorpion has Mossberg’s universally-recognized, ambidextrous top-mounted safety.
The TactLite 6-position adjustable stock features an elongated design to improve fit for most users; a 3 7/8-inch length-of-pull (LOP) range of adjustment; and one-inch adjustable cheek riser. The stock also has ATI’s TrakLOCK System which eliminates horizontal and vertical movement of the stock on the buffer tube and provides for smooth, secure stock adjustments. Incorporated into the stock is the Scorpion Recoil System, utilizing the Scorpion T2 Recoil Pistol Grip with sure-grip texture and extended recoil-taming material to reduce discomfort to the shooter’s hand and thumb, combined with the thin, non-slip Scorpion X2 Recoil Pad. The well-designed stock offers no snag points and features dual-sided QD attachment points. There is also a single-point sling mount insert above the grip that can be faced left or right for shooter comfort.
The ATI Halo Heatshield is a free-floating design with front/rear blocks and silicone pads that provide for no metal-to-metal contact with the barrel. The heatshield is constructed of high-strength steel and finished with a matte black powder-coating. A front dovetail rail attachment comes with two 2-inch rails for the convenience of adding accessories and a shield-mounted, front post sight provides for quick target acquisition.
Completing the accessory package is the ATI Halo Side Saddle, which is mounted directly to the tapped receiver on the Mossberg 500. The saddle is constructed of durable anodized aluminum and comes with three Add-A-Shell units that mount to any of nine possible positions. Each Add-A-Shell unit can be flipped 180 degrees for user-preference of brass up or brass down orientation. A convenient, removable top rail provides for ease of adding optics or mounting systems.
Mossberg MMR Carbine
Available in three versions, the Mossberg MMR Carbine features a new 13-inch handguard that combines a comfortable, slim profile with the versatile Magpul® M-LOK® system and a full-length top rail; Magpul MOE+® grip; Magpul MOE polymer trigger guard; 6-position adjustable or optional fixed length-of-pull (LOP) stock; 16.25-inch barrel with A2-style muzzle brake; and 30-round magazine (10-round versions are available). Mossberg’s newest version of the modern sporting rifle is ideal for hunting, competitive or recreational shooting and home defense use.
The standard features on the Mossberg MMR Carbine include a direct-impingement gas system for reliable, smooth operation; free-floating, button-rifled, carbon steel barrel with versatile 1:8 twist rate; removable rail-mounted, adjustable target sights (front sight is adjustable for elevation and rear sight for windage and elevation); single stage trigger; and black phosphate/anodized metal finishes for enhanced durability. A flat-top, full-length Picatinny rail provides for customization of your MMR with alternate sight systems or accessories. Stock options include a 6-position adjustable (10 1/2 - 14 1/4”) or fixed LOP (13 7/8”) combined with the slimmer profile, 13-inch handguard. Both feature a non-reflective black finish. The forward assist and dust cover are removed on this trimmed-down carbine.
Magpul MOE (Magpul Original Equipment) furniture enhances the modularity and comfort of the Mossberg MMR Carbine. The Magpul MOE M-LOK system has been incorporated into Mossberg’s new handguard for ease of attaching Picatinny rail sections and other M-LOK compatible accessories via the M-LOK slots. The MOE+ grip and trigger guard provide an ergonomic, hand-filling design with anti-slip texturing. The open core of the grip accepts optional Storage Cores for gear stowage.
Mossberg SA-20 All-Purpose Field Walnut and SA-20 Turkey
Ever since it was first introduced on the global hunting guns market, the Mossberg SA-20 shotguns line became a hit thanks to its well-designed gas system that vents excess gases to reduce recoil and eases stress on the operating components for smooth, reliable operation. Comfortable-to-shoot, these perfectly-balanced 20 gauges are 2 3/4 and 3-inch capable with a five-round total capacity (one less with 3-inch shells).
The new Mossberg SA-20 All-Purpose Field Walnut shotgun has a classically-styled, gloss-finished walnut stock with traditional checkering on the forend and grip. Complementing the wood stock is a polished blue finish on the exposed metalwork. The 26-inch vent rib barrel comes equipped with front bead sight and SA-20 Sport Set of choke tubes (Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder and Cylinder) for added versatility with this all-purpose, 20-gauge autoloader. MSRP hits $654 in the United States.
With today’s advancements in turkey loads, the 20-gauge platform is growing in popularity with turkey hunters of all ages and Mossberg's SA-20 Turkey is designed to maximize performance. This easy-handling package features a 22-inch vent rib barrel with Extended Turkey choke tube and is topped with a Fiber Optic 3-Dot Sight, ideal for low-light conditions. The durable synthetic stock and forend are effectively-covered with Mossy Oak Obsession, a pattern that builds on elements of ghost shadows, realistic limbs and a lighter background, enhanced with the addition of spring tones. The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Mossberg SA-20 Turkey shotgun was set at $644; U.S. only (for now).
Mossberg Patriot rifles in Kryptek Highlander camo
The Mossberg Patriot line of bolt-action rifles, featuring over sixty models in eleven of the world's most popular hunting calibers, is boosted this year by the addition of five new models sporting Kryptek Highlander camo stocks with matte blue metal finishes in five calibers: .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield and .300 Winchester Magnum.
The Patriot series is based on Mossberg’s proven twin-lug, push-feed machined-steel action which is fed from a lightweight polymer, flush box magazine with 5-round total capacity (4-round capacity for .300 Winchester Magnum). The button-rifled, standard contour, free-floating 22-inch barrels are constructed of carbon steel and feature straight-edge fluting and recessed crowns. Exposed metalwork has a Matte Blue finish. Every Patriot rifle also features Mossberg’s patented LBA ("Lightning Bolt Action™") Adjustable Trigger System for consistent shot placement and is user-adjustable from 2 to 7 pounds. Other standard features include distinctive, spiral-fluted bolts; receiver-mounted, weaver-style scope bases for ease of adding optics; and sling swivel studs.
These five new Patriot rifles feature Kryptek Highlander stocks; a camouflage pattern specially-designed for hunting in varied terrain and elevation. The classic stock design has textured stippling on the grip and the three surface areas of the forend and features a straight comb with rounded edges, raised cheekpiece and traditional rubber butt pad for greater comfort and reduced recoil. A polymer block insert with integral magazine well provides a simple, but effective bedding platform. To complement the stock redesign and improve handling, Mossberg has streamlined the bolt handle, providing additional clearance for gloved or larger hands, and added an aggressively-checkered bolt knob.
Mossberg Pro-Series Sporting and Waterfowl shotguns
The new Mossberg 930 Pro-Series Sporting shotgun is built with special finishes, premium coatings and an ergonomically-designed walnut stock and forend to enhance performance and handle round-after-round of clay-breaking action. To provide that competitive edge, Mossberg collaborated with professional shooting instructor and renowned OSP® (Optimum Shotgun Performance) School founder, Gil Ash, on the design features of the 930 Pro-Series Sporting shotgun. And as an added bonus, every 930 Pro-Series Sporting purchase comes with a FREE 60-day trial subscription to the OSP School’s Knowledge Vault, a collection of instructional articles and videos on clays and wingshooting by Gil and his wife, Vicki Ash.
Unique to Mossberg’s Pro-Series shotguns are the boron nitride coatings on the gas piston, piston ring, magazine tube, hammer, sear, return spring plunger and return spring tube for enhanced corrosion resistance and ease-of-cleaning. And the shell stop, bolt slide and elevator receive additional finishing which reduces overall friction on internal parts and provides for faster follow-up shots.
The Mossberg 930 and 935 Magnum Pro-Series Waterfowl autoloading shotguns are available with the most versatile and effective “pure grass” camo pattern, Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades. And with the Pro-Series special finishes and competition-proved parts, these premium autoloaders are built to increase performance and stand up to the rigors of waterfowl hunting from the first flights of teal in early fall to the frigid conditions of late-season goose hunts.
The fully-camouflaged 12-gauge, 3 ½-inch 935 Magnum Pro-Series Waterfowl shotgun has a 28-inch overbored, vent rib barrel. The overbored barrel in this hard-hitting magnum further reduces felt recoil and delivers consistent, dense patterns. The 930 Pro-Series Waterfowl 12-gauge, 3-inch shotgun features a 28-inch vent rib barrel and full camo coverage.
