First announced back in January at the 2024 edition of SHOT Show, the Hornady HIT Target Impact Indicator is now in distribution and is probably one of the simplest, yet most clever shooting accessories and accoutrements to have been launched in a while with a focus on long-range precision shooting disciplines.

The Hornady HIT consists essentially of a small box with an elastic retainer band, a built-in accelerometer and a set of ultra-bright LEDs behind a red colored lens, all powered by an internal battery which can be recharged via a factory-issued USB cable.

Absolutely straightforward to use, the Hornady HIT target impact indicator is secured to the target rest – not the target itself! – via its elastic band, and turned on manually by the small rubberized button located on one side, opposite to the USB charging port. Two small LEDs underneat the box provide convenient indications on the battery charge status.

When the target is hit, the built-in accelerometer detects the vibrations and activates the LEDs, which will flash to compose the word H-I-T in Morse code (••••  ••  –) to provide the shooter with positive impact feedback. Depending on weather conditions, the flash can be seen from up to 1000 yards (>914 m) away.

This makes the Hornady HIT a useful aid for long-range shooting enthusiasts, particularly for those activities such as scope zeroing at long distances where checking the target for positive impact after every shot is inconvenient, or pointless (eg. silhouette shooting).

The Hornady HIT target impact indicators can be purchased through Hornady distributors and retailers or directly on the Hornady e-store at a retail price of $17.99 for pack of two; $43.99 for a pack of five; or $359.99 for a pack of fifty, a convenient option for shooting clubs and ranges.
