New Beretta A400 shotguns for 2018
This year Beretta has introduced some new semiautomatic shotguns: the A400 Upland, A400 Xtreme Plus, A400 Lite Max 5 and A400 Xcel Sporting Black Edition, expanding the Beretta A400 line to meet the needs of all hunters
The A400 series of semi-automatic shotguns currently represents the tip of the spear of Beretta's line of semiautomatic hunting shotguns. The A400 shotguns have been available for about one decade now, and still enjoy a high level of commercial success thanks to their long list of innovative features, particolarly if compared to the vast majority of direct competitors.
Based on Beretta's patented "Blink" working system, employing a self-cleaning and self-regulating gas valge, the Beretta A400 shotgun allows hunters and shooters to use any kind of ammunition, with any type of load, while retaining consistent accuracy, performance and reliability. At the same time, the joint effect of the rotating bolt and of the Kick-Off and Kick-Off 3 systems guarantee a consistently low recoil and muzzle climb in most shooting or hunting situations.
Every year, the Italian company has been updating the A400 line of shotguns to meet the multiple needs and demands of hunters worldwide: let's take a look at the latest entries in the series!
Beretta A400 Upland
The Beretta A400 Upland is the very first semi-automatic shotgun to be manufactured by the Italian company featuring an innovative wood stock with an integrated Kick-Off Plus technology, that reduces recoil up to 50%. Both the line and the checkering of the pistol grip and the handguard have been redesigned for a superior shooting comfort.
Available in 12-gauge only, with a 76mm/3" chambering and a three-shots tube, the Beretta A400 Upland shotgun comes with 61 cm / 24", 66 cm / 26", 71 cm / 28" and 76 cm / 30" Steelium barrels – certified for reliability, durability and performance with steel shots – and a 6x6 sighting rib. Beretta's own OCHP ("Optima Choke High Performance") choke system is provided from factory.
The nickel-plated receiver is completed by an exquisite game scene engraving. The new design of the pistol grip and forend improves the gun comfort and enhances the overall look and slim new design.
The Beretta A400 Upland semi-automatic shotgun also comes with a receiver adapted to accept mounting rings for red dot or optical sights.
Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus Max 5
New for 2018, the Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus Max 5 semi-automatic shotgun is chambered for 12-gauge, 89mm / 3.5" ("Supermagnum") shells – the waterfowlers' prime choice. The A400 Xtreme Plus also features Beretta's exclusive Steelium Plus barrels – a first for hunting shotguns, providing the best patterning possible from all hunting loads, along with further felt recoil mitigation – as well as a soft comb stock to reduce felt recoil imparted to the shooter’s cheek.
Further drawing from the competition world, the new A400 Xtreme Plus barrel comes factory issued with a step rib with an integral mid-bead and fiber optic front bead in order to ensure the proper fit and sight picture for all conditions.
Further enhancing the A400 Xtreme Plus is the addition of an extended charging handle and bolt release from the factory to allow for easier manipulation during the coldest and rainiest days, as well as an enlarged loading port to allow for easier loading in adverse conditions. A completely black version with synthetic furniture and a Mossy Oak Bottomland camo version of the design are also available.

Beretta A400 Lite Max 5
Now available in both 12 gauge and 20 gauge variants with a 76mm / 3" chambering and either 66 cm / 26" or 71 cm / 28" Steelium tri-alloy steel barrels, as well as in a full Realtree MAX-5 camo finish, the Beretta A400 Lite combinies the Kick-Off Plus shock absorption with the brand new GunPod 2 monitoring system and lightweight polymer components: the perfect blend of strength, agility, precision and technology.
The GunPod 2 is an easy-to-use, built-in monitoring system hosted within the grip that allows shooters to keep track of shots fired in total and per each individual session, and will easily interface with an ad-hoc mobile app to use the device's own GPS system (the GunPod 2 itself has no GPS capabilities or trackers on its own!) to allow the user to keep track of the path and distance covered on a map per each hunting trip.
Using the GunPod 2 is very easy: the user will just have to launch the app, start a session, put the mobile device in a pocket and let the GunPod 2 do the rest. The app will receive data from the GunPod 2 system and collect all the relevant data in background without distracting the user from the hunting experience.
The users of the GunPod 2 technology and of its relevant mobile app will also have access to a dedicated web dashboard allowing them to add photos and videos to their GunPod 2 feed and create a true hunting diary.

Beretta A400 Xcel Sporting Black Edition
The A400 Xcel is a competition shotgun that is faster-cycling, softer-shooting and better balanced than anything else on the market.
Built on the revolutionary A400 action (the "Blink" system), the Xcel Sporting Black Edition shotgun it delivers follow-up shots faster than any other brand, while its advanced recoil-reducing systems – the Kick-Off system, the Microcore rubberized buttpad and the replaceable Balance Cap System – make it absolutely pleasant to shoot, even on demanding all-day competitions.
Its sleek lines and superior ergonomics are designed with one goal in mind: letting the A400 naturally lead the shooter's eye to the target. This is why it has quickly become a favorite among serious competitive shooters the world over.
Building on the success of Beretta’s Black Edition competition shotguns like the DT11, 692 and 690, the A400 Xcel Sporting Black Edition features a 10mm wide rib made of lightweight and strong carbon fiber – the same material and process used to make components for Formula One racecars – that reduces the weight of the barrel by 4oz for improved swingability and target acquisition.
