New for 2025 from Cimarron Firearms, one of America's premier distributors of historic replica firearms, are the 1873 John Russell and Nueces '73 lever-action rifles: two new takes on the quintessential Model 1873 design, unique to Cimarron.

The Cimarron 1873 John Russell is inspired by the striking profile of the lead character's rifle in the classic 1967 film Hombre, played by Paul Newman. Cimarron has worked directly with the manufacturer to match the heavy round barrel and shortened magazine tube. Offering the stopping power of .45 Colt ammunition and the accuracy of a 20-inch barrel length, the 1873 John Russell is embelished by walnut furniture and features a fixed bead front sight and adjustable rear sights.

The Nueces '73 rifle pays homage to Leander H. McNelly, who in 1874 was put in charge of a group of Texas Rangers to clean up bandit-ridden Nueces River, a strip of southwestern Texas between the Rio Grande and the Nueces river. Chambered in .45 LC and featuring a specially designed 24.25" heavy round barrel, the Nueces '73 rifle is stamped with a “T * S” – the same stamp used on rifles issued to the Texas Rangers. The rifle’s beautifully finished hand-rubbed oil walnut stock and forend, along with the classic old metal finish make the Nueces '73 rifle an heirloom to cherish for years to come.

MSRP is set at $1,780.70 for the 1873 John Russell model and at $1,768.88 for the Nueces'73 model. Both models are manufactured exclusively for Cimarron Firearms by Uberti of Italy.
