Bushmaster Minimalist SD M-LOK semi-automatic rifle
SHOT Show 2019 – Bushmaster introduces an M-LOK variant of its Minimalist SD AR-15 based rifle in 5,56mm/.223 and .300 BLK caliber: a sleek, lightweight, efficient platform for competition shooting and Police work
The Bushmaster Minimalist-SD M-Lok semi-automatic rifle is the latest entry in the Minimalist-SD line of semi-automatic rifles and carbines manufactured by Bushmaster – one of America’s best known manufacturers of AR-15 derivative firearms, acquired by the Freedom Group in 2006 and currently a Remington Outdoor Company brand.
Bushmaster’s new Minimalist-SD M-LOK semi-automatic rifle, just like all the previous entries in the line, was conceived as an essential, sleek firearm, offering everything its user may need without excessive bells and whistles and, most importantly, keeping the overall weight at an acceptable minimum. And indeed, the Minimalist-SD M-LOK rifle is 89 cm / 35” long overall with its stock collapsed, weighing not more than 2,7 kilograms (6 lbs.) empty.
Bushmaster technicians wish to stress that this is not a civilian-grade iteration of a platform designed for military or combat applications, but a strictly semi-automatic AR-15 variant conceived for shooting competition and Police patrol duties.
As most of our readers will know, law enforcement organizations in the United States have been steadily replacing 12-gauge pump-action shotguns with semi-automatic AR-15 rifle variants as their standard patrol long guns for the past fifteen to twenty years, while – and unlike in Europe – their full-automatic or select-fire counterparts are mostly reserved to SWAT teams and other special units.
The Bushmaster Minimalist-SD M-LOK semi-automatic rifle is built on hard-anodized black, lightweight aluminum alloy receivers and comes factory-issued with a standard A3 controls configuration and with a Mission First Tactical ergonomic pistol grip and MFT Minimalist collapsible buttstock for maximum comfort and minimal weight, featuring QD cups and a rounded rubber buttpad.
The gas block on the Bushmaster Minimalist-SD M-LOK semi-automatic rifle is low-profile, and the gun comes without iron sights from factory.
The black hard-anodized machined aluminum free-float forend is instead provided by Samson Manufacturing, and features ventilation holes and three rows of M-LOK slots at 3-o’clock, 6-o’clock and 9-o’clock position. A MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail runs to the full top length of the A3 upper receiver, providing a wide mounting surface for backup iron sights, optics and other aiming devices.
The 16”, cold-hammer forged 4150 Chrome-moly steel, Melonite-treated barrel sports six right handed grooves, with a 1:8” rifling pitch for 5,56x45mm/.223 caliber and a 1:9” twist for the .300 AAC “Blackout” caliber. The AAC 51T Blackout flash hider provides for a fast attach silencer mount.
