After several years of development, Stenzel Industries debuts the SAK-21 semi-automatic tactical rifle at the 2026 edition of SHOT Show: an all-American, modernized and vastly improved take on the classic Kalashnikov AKM design, meant to be modular, multicaliber, and more user-friendly. 

Entirely manufactured out of billet aluminum rather than stampings, with a steel bolt and bolt carrier group and a new adjustable short-stroke gas system in lieu of the original long-stroke piston for lower felt recoil and suppressor optimization, the SAK-21 mounts a 12.5-inch, 1:10" twist rate from factory, equipped with a 5/8-24 tapered muzzle device; the barrel is free floating and removable, and along with the replaceable bolt and modular receiver design adaptable to multiple magazine types, allows conversion from 7.62x39mm to 5.56x45mm NATO or .300-AAC "Blackout".

Other improvements include a vertical Picatinny rail on the rear trunnion, allowing the installation of any Picatinny-compatible buttstock or armbrace; a return-to-zero hinged top cover and full-length Picatinny optics rail; a crossbolt safety and last round bolt open with ambidextrous bolt release, manual bolt hold open feature and bolt catch and release with integrated ejector; an extended magazine release, oversized takedown button, and extruded aluminum free floated handguard.
