Officially announced on September 22, and currently available on the US market, the Savage Arms RXR22 .22 Long Rifle semi-automatic rifle, is – to quote the company's own words – a gun "for everybody": designed for versatility and customization, the Savage Arms RXR22 is suitable for activities ranging from plinking and target shooting to small-game hunting and tactical-style training.

Today's shooters demand more than just reliability and accuracy: they want a platform they can adapt to their shooting style, discipline, and to all their needs – particularly if that can be done on a budget. Savage Arms thus designed the RXR22 to offer almost unmatched levels of out-of-the-box versatility and customization, for training, leisure plinking, small-game hunting, and competition.

Additionally, the overall features of the RXR22 make it the perfect gun to introduce the younger generation of future hunters and sport shooters to the basics of marksmanship and safe firearms handling: a great propedeutical tool to pass on from father to son.

Savage Arms designed the RXR22 around a black polymer receiver to keep down manufacturing costs – which translates into a lower price tag – and to ensure overall technical simplicity. The bolt group is manufactured out of steel, and features a side charging handle that also dubs as a hold-open release device and forward assist.

A simple blowback-operated design, the Savage Arms RXR22 also features a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for optics molded directly on top of the polymer receiver.

The stock of the RXR22 rifle – available in gun metal grey or flat dark earth grigio canna di fucile (Gun Metal Grey) e color sabbia (Flat Dark Earth) – is likewise manufactured out of polymer and built to be sleek and modern-looking, with its lightened buttstock, rubberized recoil pad, slip-proof panels on the grip and handguard, and interchangeable vertical grip front straps for adaptability to any hand size.

The stock also comes with front and rear sling swivels and a short four-slots Picatinny rail segment for optics. The massive use of polymer allows the Savage Arms RXR22 to keep overall weight to exactly two kilograms (4.6 lbs) when empty.

Standing at 82 centimeters (32.¼") in overall length, the Savage Arms RXR22 semi-automatic carbine features a quick-remove, black steel precision button-rifled 42 cm / 16.½" barrel with a recessed target crown and a ½”x28 thread at the muzzle, normally covered by a screw-on thread protector, allowing the quick installation of flash hiders, muzzle brakes, compensators, or sound suppressors.

The trigger group of the Savage Arms RXR22 is easily removable for maintenance; a cleaning port is located on the rear of the receiver, providing quick and easy access for post-use cleaning without proceeding to a full field strip.

The Savage Arms RXR22 rifle feeds through Ruger 10/22 compatible magazines, and comes issued with 10-round magazines that feature a last round bolt open device. The RXR22 is compatible with all factory or aftermarket Ruger 10/22 compatible magazines of any make, model, and capacity.

Indeed – and that's probably the biggest selling point of the Savage Arms RXR22 – this rifle is completely 10/22 compatible, and will readily accept Ruger 10/22 aftermarket trigger groups, magazines, and barrels, thus opening a whole universe of customisation options for shooters who want to adapt their RXR22 for hunting, target practice, or competition shooting in a wide variety of disciplines.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Savage Arms RXR22 semi-automatic rifle on the US market is set at $299; for further information, visit the official Savage Arms website.
