When J.P. Sauer & Sohn first introduced the Sauer 404 bolt-action rifle back in 2015, shooters and hunters were fascinated by the modular design of the system – a world's first in hunting rifles.
At the heart of the system is the Sauer universal key system, or SUS – essentially a 5mm hex key integrated in the front sling swivel stud and stowed away in the handguard. The SUS key allows the Sauer 404 to be completely broken down in its key components in seconds, and allows the stock and forend to be replaced without hassle and the proprietary Sauer "Quattro" trigger to be adjusted on four different weight levels.
The SUS key allows the easy removal of the Sauer 404 barrel and the conversion of the rifle to any of the sixteen compatible calibers: nine standard chamberings (.243 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x55mm, .270 Winchester, 7x64mm, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, 8x57 IS, 9.3x62mm) and seven Magnum options (7mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum, 8x68mm S, .338 Winchester Magnum .375 H&H Magnum, .404 Jeffery, 10.3x60R) covering the full spectrum of mid-to-big game hunting worldwide.

Now Sauer announced the introduction of new conversion kits for the popular .222 and .223 Remington calibers.
The .222 Remington and .223 Remington are popular in many countries and many hunting applications, and these two new conversion kits will also allow hunters to train using commonly available, low-cost ammunition.
The new caliber conversion kits will begin distributing on September 1st, 2019.
