The Leopard is the latest masterpiece by Johann Fanzoj: a hunting rifle, a handgun and a fixed blade knife, all finely engraved and put together in an ensemble that combines precision mechanics and art at the topmost heights of luxury
The firearms market is mostly populated by industrial creations manufactured in large numbers, conceived for a mass clientele and meant to be more functional and effective than aesthetically pleasing.
Exceptions to this rule are always noteworthy, and even more so when they come from the likes of Johann Fanzoj, the well known Ferlach, Austria-based manufacturer of bespoke luxury firearms.
The latest issue of Durrah – a specialized luxury lifestyle magazine published in the Gulf States – featured the latest creation from Johann Fanzoj: The Leopard, an ensemble set of three weapons finely manufactured and engraved as a homage to the elegance, majesty and power of the great African and Asian predator.
The Leopard set includes three pieces – a .300 Winchester Magnum caliber bolt-action hunting rifle manufactured by Fanzoj, a SIG Sauer P226 X-Five 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a Trompeter & Ritchi fixed blade knife – all hand-engraved in a strikingly realistic theme patterned after the classic look of a leopard's mantle.
The author of the engravings and all decorations is Richard Meier, Austrian master engraver and one of the greatest metal artists of our time.
A deep chiseled engraving enhances all images to the highest levels, giving depth to every detail while at the same time creating a three-dimension effect.
Inlays of fossilized mammoth tooth with a spectacular scrimshaw work depicting faces of leopards on the prowl seem to almost come alive, as if the predators were ready to jump at the observer. Circassian walnut root wood, best-quality steel and 24-carat gold inlays complete the picture and earn Fanzoj's The Leopard set a unique place in the fascinating world of rare collectibles and luxury guns.
The rifle, the knife and the handgun all come in a dedicated matching exhibition and transport oak case with a leather handle and inserts, with a leopard portrait on each case lid.
All components of the set are issued with handcrafted accessories, manufactured out of fossilized mammooth teeth and 24k gold-plated steel.
Born as a concept meant to embody the spirit of hunting as a concept and a cultural factor that's embedded in human nature ever since the dawn of time, The Leopard set by Johann Fanzoj reaches a pinnacle of luxury and perfection, perfectly bringing the art gunmaking and knife-making into the world of absolute excellence.
