Walther PDP pistol series expands for all common red dot sights
Walther upgrades the PDP line of semi-automatic, striker-fired, polymer frame pistols with a new optics-ready interface that will make the Performance Duty Pistol compatible with the vast majority of micro red dot sights currently available on the global commercial markets
First introduced one year ago, the Walther PDP "Performance Duty Pistol" 9mm Luger semi-automatic handgun (not to be confused pepper spray pistol introduced by UMAREX under the same name a few years ago, now rebranded the Walther PGS) represents the latest evolution and modernization of the P99 / PPQ design that has been the flagship of the Carl Walther production line for sport shooting, personal defense and duty-tactical applications ever since 1996.
The Walther PDP "Performance Duty Pistol" is built to be an ergonomically adaptable, highly modular design built essentially on three components – the polymer frame, the slide and the barrel, all available in different sizes – which can be swapped by the users to adapt their PDPs to each of their individual needs and preferences.
New for 2022, Walther introduces a series-wide improvement to the PDP design regarding the factory built-in optics-ready slide, which already allows the use of a wide array of micro red dot and reflex sights through the use of model-specific mounting plates.
The new interface design consists in a 2mm (0.078") longer cutout, now allowing the use of dedicated mounting plates for Aimpoint ACRO, Vortex Venom and Burris FastFire series micro red dot sights – plus others that share the same footprint.
Other modifications to the interface include a set of recoil studs and larger screw cutouts, which will allow users to use the original screws provided by the optics manufacturers themselves for the installation of their optical sight of choice.
The most direct consequence of this modification is that the old generation of mounting plates will no longer be compatible with all the Walther PDP pistols that will feature the new slide cutout. An entirely new set of mounting plates will be made available by Walther, covering all the optics brands and types mentioned above plus other popular market alternatives such as Leupold and Trijicon micro red dot or micro reflex sights.
All the Walther PDP 5" barrel pistols starting from serial number FDM0001 and all PDP 4.5" pistols starting with serial number FDL9203 will feature the new interface design and will accept the new generation of mounting plates. The modifications will also be implemented on all newly manufactured Walther PDP pistols with 4" barrels starting in Spring 2022.
