Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro optics-ready carry pistol
Springfield Armory announces the new Hellcat Pro polymer frame, striker-fired pistol – a larger sized, optics-ready version of the wildly popular Hellcat micro-compact, offering an overall capacity of 16 rounds, perfect for both concealed and open carry
The Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol, freshly introduced by Springfield Armory on the US market and manufactured in Croatia by HS Produkt, is a larger variant of the Hellcat micro-compact, a concealed carry-oriented handgun first launched in 2019.
Just like the Hellcat micro-compact, Springfield Armory's new Hellcat Pro is a polymer frame, single-action, striker-fired pistol, featuring a reversible magazine release catch but no manual safety – a set of automatic trigger and striker safeties taking its place.
Whilst the Hellcat micro-compact was more or less exclusively conceived as a concealed carry handgun, the new Hellcat Pro will fare well both as a concealed and open carry option, for both civilians and professionals – chiefly law enforcement and private security.
Standing at 16,7 centimeters (6.6") in overall length, the new Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro pistol features a 9,3 cm / 3.7" barrel and weighs in at barely 595 grams (21 oz) when empty.
The slightly larger size makes the Hellcat Pro easier and more comfortable to handle even by larger-handed shooters, and easier to shoot. The 3.7" barrel offers improved ballistics over the shorter barrel of the Hellcat micro-compact.
What makes the Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro extremely comfortable and effortless to carry, both open and concealed with minimal printing, is the extremely low width – barely 2,54 cm / 1" at its wider point at the grip – despite the fact that the double-stack, flush-fit, metal magazines with polymer floorplate and elevator host a staggering 15 rounds of ammunition (staggering for the size and width, that is).
An additional round may be held in chamber, and higher-capacity magazines may be released in the future, by either Springfield Armory itself or third-party suppliers.
The barrel of the Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro pistol is cold-hammer forged out of high-grade steel, features a 6 grooves, right-handed rifling with a 1:10" twist rate, and is protected by a black thermo-chemical ferritic nitrocarburized surface treatment (Melonite).
The slide of the Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro is likewise manufactured out of stainless steel, machined out of solid billet, Melonite-treated in matte black for additional resistance against wear and tear as well as against corrosion and external aggressive elements, and offers features such as front and rear slide serrations; a loaded chamber indicator, in the form of a small hole just behind the ejection window that makes the status of the firearm readily discernable both visually and by feel; and a protected machined interface on top of the slide, allowing the use of micro red dot sights – an increasingly sought-after feature on service and defensive pistols.
Dubbed the OSP (Optical Sight Pistol), Springfield Armory's interface allows the use of a vast majority of popular and common micro red dot sights, including some of the top products from the best known manufacturers in the industry.
Other features of the new Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro pistol include a non-proprietary (Picatinny) rail for tactical accessories underneath the dust cover; an adaptive set of aggressive slip-proof gripping features all over the grip area, allowing for a more secure hold in all conditions; a dual captive recoil spring on a full-length guide rod, which protrudes slightly from the barrel at the front to dub as a stand-off device; a dovetailed high-visibility front sight with a tritium insert; and a likewise dovetailed, white U-notch rear sight.
The Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro pistol is already available through authorized Springfield Armory retailers at a suggested price of $634,00; no information concerning availability and pricing on export markets has been released so far.
