CMMG Four Six, the world's first 4.6x30mm civilian firearm!
CMMG announces the first semi-automatic, civilian-grade personal defense weapon chambered in 4.6x30mm: the CMMG Four Six is an AR-15 variant based on the Company's own Banshee Mk4 platform, feeding through proprietary magazines
The unobtanium 4.6x30mm caliber finally becomes available to civilian customers... and no, Heckler & Koch and their MP-7 sub-machine gun have nothing to do with it. CMMG, Inc. – a well respected manufacturer of AR-15 variants headquartered in the State of Missouri – announced the launch of the CMMG Four Six, a civilian-oriented personal defense weapon in a familiar layout, featuring a 203 mm / 8" barrel.
The CMMG Four Six is based on a modified direct gas impingement system, finely tuned to the typical gas quantity and pressures generated by the diminutive 4.6x30mm ammunition; the monolythic aluminum alloy upper receiver features a full-length top Picatinny rail for optics, an M-LOK handguard for tactical accessories, and is available in different matte Cerakote finish options.
The 8-inch barrel is specific for 4.6x40mm, and so is the proprietary bolt and bolt carrier group. All the rest is essentially identical to CMMG's own Banshee 300 Mk4 series of AR-15 variants, lower receiver included.
The CMMG Four Six is available in factory configurations – built around the mentioned Banshee 300 Mk4 lower receiver – or as a conversion kit for custom builds, consisting of a dedicated 4.6x30mm barrel and BCG.
Since the Four Six BCG has been slightly modified to reliably cycle 4.6x30mm ammunition, builders will need to use the CMMG BCG, barrel and magazine to ensure proper function.
The CMMG Four Six is available in a Title 1 pistol configuration – featuring a CMMG RipBrace armbrace – and as an SBR, coming from factory with CMMG's own RipStock low-profile collapsible buttstock.
Another proprietary, innovative feature of the CMMG Four Six is the double-stack magazine: designed from the ground up by CMMG to feed reliably with the 4.6x30mm ammunition, it is manufactured out of polymer, will fit any STANAG 4179 magazine well, and is available in 10- or 40-rounds versions.
Other features of the CMMG Four Six in its factory configuration include a MagPul MOE pistol grip, a CMMG single-stage trigger, a CMMG SV Brake muzzle device, a CMMG ambidextrous oversized charging handle, and an ambidextrous safety.
The CMMG Four Six is currently available in the United States at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of US$ 1.399,95 for both the pistol and SBR configurations. Not the cheapest AR around, but given CMMG's well-known quality levels – not to mention the unique nature of the platform – the figure can be considered proportionate.
4.6x30mm ammunition is also already available on the US civilian market – more specifically, Fiocchi's FI46 EXA FMJ and FI46 EXB soft-point 40-grains loads, in 50-rounds boxes.
As of today, no information concerning export availability and pricing of the CMMG Four Six has been disclosed. We will keep you posted.
