Uberti 1860 Army Richards 'Avenging Angel'
A new Uberti Colt 1860 Army Richards conversion in a historically faithful “Avenging Angel” configuration and Old West antique patina finish
The Uberti Richards 1860 Army Avenging Angel is one of the new entries for 2020, as a special run for Uberti USA.
With the end of the American Civil War, and the time of ambiguity and uncertainty that came with it, it became popular for civilians, outlaws and lawmen alike to carry deep concealment revolvers made out of standard guns, like the Colt 1860 Army, favored for its large caliber and light frame, with the barrel sawn off just before the lower lug, to be carried tucked in pockets or sometimes in the first shoulder holster rigs.
One of the most notorious of these “belly guns”, meant to be used at extremely short distance, is a variant commonly referred to as “Avenging Angel”. With the advent of metallic cartridge conversion, that made the lack of a loading lever irrelevant, these snub-nosed revolvers became even more popular.
The Uberti Avenging Angel is a replica of a Colt 1860 Army Richards Mason breech loading conversion, with a barrel cut just off the mounting lug.
Chambered in the popular .45 Colt cartridge, the rebated cylinder profile typical of the Richards Mason conversion holds 6 shots and can be loaded through a loading gate held in place by a spring.
As the original Avenging Angel revolvers, meant for point shooting only, the gun lacks any front sight.
The revolver adopts the Uberti “Improved” hammer safety system, which grants an high level of safety yet maintaining the original hammer design profile.
The Uberti Richards Army Avenging Angel is finished with a worn, Old West antique patina that replicates the look and feel of the well-used original guns of this kind.
