Schmidt & Bender new riflescopes for 2016
Schmidt & Bender launched seven new riflescopes this year, further expanding its offer to the benefit of target shooters, hunters, and tactical operators
At the IWA expo in Nuremberg (Germany), back in March, Schmidt & Bender - the German-based global market leader in high precision optics - introduced several new riflescopes that complement their already vast line of sporting, hunting and tactical optics line. The new Polar T96 series and the PM II Ultra Bright, High Power and Digital BT lines combine high light transmission, technical innovation, and long-lasting reliability.
Schmidt & Bender Polar T96
Optimum target acquisition in low light light conditions is essential in many hunting situations, particularly at dusk and dawn; and Schmidt & Bender developed the Polar T96 line of riflescope precisely for this kind of use. The new 3-12x54 and 4-16x56 model offering a light transmission level that exceeds 96%, and optimized night light transmission values above 93.5% thanks to the use of special glass and coating for the lenses.
Both new models come with an optional lockable reticle quick-adjustment turret; a parallax adjustment dial is a standard feature in the 4-16x56 model and an available optional with the 3-12x54 variant. Their new type of diffractive reticles on the second focal plane with a fine illuminated center dot can be adjusted in brightness to adapt to environmental light conditions. Alternatively, a first focal plane reticle is available.
The hard anodized aluminum, 34mm diameter tube allows the Schmidt & Bender Polar T96 line of scopes to feature a large adjustment range, making them particularly well suited for mountain hunt or for all those applications where long-distance shooting capabilities is paramount.
The new Polar T96 scopes are both ring- or rail-compatible, and interfaces are available for proprietary mounting options such as Schmidt & Bender's own LMC rail or the Zeiss Z-Rail.
The new Schmidt & Bender Polar T96 3-12x54 and 4-16x56 riflescopes are available starting Summer 2016.
Schmidt & Bender PM II Ultra Bright
While the Polar T96 scopes are more strictly hunting-oriented, the newly-developed PM II Ultra Bright models were conceived for long-range tactical shooting, providing a unique 96% light transmission level granted by the development of the new optics and lens coating systems. With a night-time light transmission level that exceeds 93.5%, the 3-12x54 PM II Ultra Bright and the 4-16x56 PM II Ultra Bright riflescopes provide positive target identification even in the worst environmental light conditions.
New features of the PM II Ultra Bright riflescopes include flat, double turn turrets with a locking function and a handier magnification setting function. The windage turret has been optimized for tactical applications, and is protected by a cap against unintended manipulation after zeroing. A series of MIL-DOT based reticles on the first focal plane allow shooters to estimate more accurately factors such as distance and holdover.
Both riflescopes offer an exceptional field of view: 12.5m/100m with the 3-12x54, and 9.4m/100m with the 4-16x56. In addition to the black standard version, both versions are available in RAL 8000 and PANTONE 7504M flat dark earth camo. Both models are available starting Summer 2016.
Schmidt & Bender PM II High Power 5-45x56
Schmidt & Bender‘s new 5-45x56 PM II High Power riflescope was developed specifically for professional marksmen and ambitious sport shooters. Based on the proven 3-27x56 PM II High Power model, the new entry sport new optics that were detailedly calculated for an extended magnification range.
Despite the high magnification level, the resulting image is brilliant and the contrast is extremely high right up to the edge of the field of view. The Schmidt & Bender PM II High Power 5-45x56 model offers an exceptionally wide field of view of 7.8m/100m and an ultra flat double turn elevation turret with MTC clicks and locking function. The windage turret was optimized for tactical use and is protected by a cap against unintentional adjustment after zeroing. MIL-DOT based reticles in the first focal plane allow for distance estimation and aiming by holdover values.
The Schmidt & Bender PM II High Power 5-45x56 riflescope is available in black, RAL 8000 and PANTONE 7504M, starting Summer 2016.
Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PM II Digital BT and 3-27x56 PM II High Power Digital BT
A new development stage of the popular PM II series of riflescopes, the Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PM II Digital BT and 3-27x56 PM II High Power Digital BT models include the possibility of connecting external devices, such as laser rangefinders, anemometers or ballistics computers via a cable interface and to project the data supplied into the marksman’s field of view. The target optics will optically and mechanically unaffected - and all it took to achieve this compatibility was to add a waterproof connector and two buttons at the eyepiece to control the brightness and menu functions.
The basic idea to assist marksmen by projecting all shot relevant data into their field of view has been consistently pursued: these two new riflescope now include a projected LED display that communicates via Bluetooth with other devices; for example, any spotter data essential for the shot can simultaneously be displayed directly in the marksman‘s field of view.
Both new models are powered through a single, commercial-grade 1.5V AA battery hosted in a waterproof housing directly under the eyepiece; similarly, two buttons are used to control the display functions. Schmidt & Bender hopes to make existing products in its line upgradable to this new system in the future, making them even more palatable to ambitious long-range civilian shooters who appreciate sophisticated technology as well as to specialized marksmen in Police or military units who will often be called to take a critically accurate shot when lives are at stake.
The Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PM II Digital BT and 3-27x56 PM II High Power Digital BT are available starting Summer 2016 in black, RAL 8000 and PANTONE 7504M colors.
