Aimpoint introduces the Duty RDS MR selectable reticle red dot sight
New from Aimpoint AB of Sweden, the Duty RDS MR red dot sight allows users to select three reticle options for sporting, hunting, and tactical uses at any range and on any target

Officially announced on August 27, the new Aimpoint Duty RDS MR red dot sight expands the already vast catalogue of the Swedish company that made history in red dot sights technology as a high-quality, adaptable and versatile model built to perform and satisfy the needs and modern preferences of a large swathe of users, from professionals – particularly law enforcement operators – to civilians, including practical and tactical shooting enthusiasts and hunters, particularly battue hunters.
The MR suffix in the name stands for "Multi Reticle"; as it aptly suggests, the new Aimpoint Duty RDS MR is a variant of the Aimpoint Duty RDS red dot sight – first introduced on the global civilian and professional markets in January 2022 – featuring a completely new optical and emitter system to integrate Aimpoint's first ever take on the multi-reticle option system.
Aimpoint's choice to go multi-reticle for their latest red dot sight is a strong testament to the advantages of this kind of solution, first pioneered in the early 2010s by another strong brand in red dot sights line Sightmark, and grown more and more popular today within the sport optics industry as it provides multiple options to engage different types of stationary and moving targets at almost any range and for all uses. Multi-reticle optics allow shooters to pick a single sight for all their needs, rather than having to spend money on several specialized models that they have to install, adjust, and get proficient with.

The new Aimpoint Duty RDS MR red dot sight features a 650 nM red light LED emitter and a rheostat powered by a single 3V CR2032 battery – this being hosted in a seat on the right side of the sight body, covered by a screw-on cap, so it can be replaced without requiring the removal of the sight from the firearm it's installed on to – controlled by two black rubberized buttons located on the left side of the sight; up to here, that's exactly the same as on the baseline Duty RDS model.
On the MR variant, however, not only the two rubberized buttons control the manual on/off function and the brightness selection – with ten available levels, of which eight are visible and four are dedicated to the use with night vision devices – but they also allow the user to manually select the reticle, navigating between a simple 2 MOA red dot; a 65 MOA red ring with top, bottom, and side hash marks; or a combination of the two (dot at the center of the ring).

The Aimpoint Duty RDS MR red dot sight is built on a semi-matte black anodized, pressure-forged high strength aluminum body; it is 80 mm / 3.1" long, 41 mm / 1.61" wide, 67 mm / 2.6" high, and weights in at barely 110 grams / 3.88 oz, going as far up as 167 grams (5.89 oz) with the mounting base and battery.
The unlimited eye relief, resistance to water up to 25 meters (82 ft); and the extremely high light transmission potential– over 85% between 420 and 900 nm – make the Aimpoint Duty RDS MR red dot sight even more enticing.

The new Aimpoint Duty RDS MR is fully compatible with Aimpoint's own flip-up magnifiers and comes issued from factory with a black polymer front lens cover, a translucent rear lens cover, and a 39 mm black anodized aluminum Picatinny mount, along with a Torx key and a set of T10 mounting screws. The recommended torque level for the mounting screws is 1.35 Nm / 12 in-lb.

Other features of the Aimpoint Duty RDS MR red dot sight include two in-set turrets, operable with a flat-faced tool, allowing the reticle to be adjusted for windage and elevation with 14 mm @ 100 m clicks; a full anti-glare, reflex-proof coating on all optical glass components; and an additional multi-layer coating on the front lens for additional protection.
In order to maximize battery life, the Aimpoint Duty RDS MR integrates a motion-activated auto-on system and auto-shutdown function. A single CR2032 battery can offer up to 30,000 hours of continuous runtime when reticle brightness is set at level 7 out of eight visible.
