The Sightmark Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS riflescope expands the flagship line of products of the well know Texan brand with a first focal plane reticle scope specifically conceived for Precision Rifle Series shooting
First established in the US, with the drawing of its first rules dating back to 2012, PRS (Precision Rifle Series) is an increasigly popular sport shooting discipline that blends the best elements of long range precision shooting with multiple aspects of practical shooting.
PRS is organized in four divisions – Open, Tactical and Production for bolt-action rifles, depending from factors such as caliber, muzzle velocity and cost, plus Gas Gun division for semi-automatic rifles – and has shooters, divided in five categories (MIL/LE, Ladies, Senior, Junior, and International), competing on shooting distances that can vary from between 10 and 1,000 meters, or yards, from unconventional shooting positions, and employing paraphernalia such as targets and barricades that are very similar to those used in IPSC shooting disciplines.
Such an enticing combination couldn’t be met with anything but a stunning success; with the number of shooters increasing from a mere 164 in 2012 to over 2000 by 2018 in the US alone, a flourishing market for dedicated firearms and accessories has seen the light of the day and is constantly providing dedicated enthusiasts and sportsmen with new and improved PRS-specific tools every year.
Among those is definitely the Sightmark Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS riflescope. True to Sightmark’s well-established business line, the Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS is both affordable and sturdy, being IP68-certified for water resistance as well as for drop resistance and to withstand high-calibers recoil up to .50 BMG. Rich in features, like the entirety of the Latitude line, the new 6.25-25x56 PRS is also versatile enough to show its worth even on more conventional long-range precision shooting disciplines.
The Sightmark Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS riflescope is built on an industry standard single-piece machined lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum alloy tube which is subsequently nitrogen-purged and filled to repel moisture and prevent condensation. The 30mm diameter tube sports a 46mm eyepiece, a 56mm objective, a matte black protective finish on all metal surfaces, and a set of fully multi-coated optical glass lenses.
Magnification on this riflescope can be set from a minimum of 6.25x to a powerful 25x factor thanks to a smooth and fast eyepiece dial with a 4:1 zoom ratio. The eyepiece also features a locking fast-focus dial. Both are intuitive enough to allow manipulation without the shooter needing to take his or her eyes off the target.
Depending from the selected magnification level, the exit pupil on the Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS ranges between 9,6 and 2,4 mm, with an eye relief ranging between 120 and 107 mm (4.7 to 4.2 inches) and a 6,6 to 1,46 m at 100 meters (16.1 to 4 ft @ 100 yds). Parallax can be adjusted to 20 yards to infinity.
True to its name, the Sightmark Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS sports a first focal plane, glass-etched PRS reticle. The PRS reticle is Milliradian-based – one MRAD being equal to 10 cm at 100 meters, or 1 yd at 1000 yards – and features numerous reference points for quick adjustment-free compensation.
A set of .1 MRAD-per-click, 10 MRAD-per-revolution turrets allow the reticle to be adjusted on a 31 MIL range in elevation and on a 20 MIL range in windage. The elevation turret features a Zero Stop system, which the shooter can engage to prevent loss of zero should the dial be accidentally handled or get tangled in something – a must-have, giving the dynamic nature of PRS shooting.
The illuminated reticle is powered by a single CR2032 3V battery. The Sightmark Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS riflescope offers five different brightness levels and two selectable illumination colors – red and green – so that the shooter may select the perfect combination on the go, depending on the lighting conditions.
The Sightmark Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS is 35 cm / 13.77” long overall, 9 cm / 3.54” wide and 7,5 cm / 2.95” high, and weighs barely 938 grams (33.1 oz) right out of the box. Coming factory-issued with a sunshade and a CR2032 battery, the Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS can operated at temperatures ranging between -29 and +71 °C (-20 to 160 °F) and is backed by Sightmark’s well known Limited Lifetime Warranty.
The Sightmark Latitude 6.25-25x56 PRS is definitely a sensible choice for shooters who may want to approach PRS shooting, particularly in the Production category, while retaining the ability to swap quickly to another use, such as range shooting or hunting, and remaining perfectly capable of achieving commendable results.
