The biggest firearms manufacturer of Finland, and one of the world's biggest, announced on May 10th the launch of a series of hunting guns that is aimed at becoming the brand's next flagship, and potentially giving most competitors on the global stage a run for their money.

Brand new from Sako, a Beretta Holding company, the Sako 90 line of bolt-action rifles was designed from the ground up to offer a mid-to-high-tier market alternative for all hunters, from Europe to north America, from the southern emisphere down to African PHs, thanks to a plethora of available configurations, stock designs, and chamberings.

As of today, the Sako 90 series of bolt-action rifles includes seven variants: Adventure, Bavarian, Hunter, Peak, Quest, Quest Ultra, and Varmint.

Depending on the version, the Sako 90 rifles are built around a polymer, carbon fiber or wooden stock, available in several styles and designs including – but not limited to – adjustable cheek risers and Montecarlo. The list of available finish versions include matte black, stainless, and Tungsten Cerakote.

The Sako 90 rifles are available in four barrel lengths: 51 cm / 20", 57 cm / 23", 60 cm / 24", and 62 cm / 25". Depending on the variant, the Sako 90 rifles feature fluted or carbon-fiber wrapped barrels, factory-installed muzzle brake or a threaded muzzle, and in at least one case, iron sights.

All the variants of the Sako 90 series feature the same action design, albeit in different sizes, optimized for cartridge length. The machined steel receiver sports features such as flat bedding interfaces, broached bolt channel, and either an integral Picatinny rail or Optilok dovetail segments.

The Sako 90 push-feed bolt features three strong lugs and two twin plunger extractors.

All variants of the Sako 90 series feed through proprietary, flush-fit detachable proprietary magazines holding up to four or five rounds depending on the caliber. Eleven calibers have been announced so far: .22-250 Remington, .243 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Remington, .308 Winchester, 6.5 PRC, 7mm Remington Magnum, 28 Nosler, .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum, and .375 Holland & Holland Magnum.

The ejection port is flared on top to facilitate manual topping of the magazine if necessary. The manual safety locks the trigger, bolt and firing pin, but a separate button is provided to unlock the bolt when the safety is engaged, allowing the chamber to be cleared safely.

Also standard on all Sako 90 bolt-action rifle variants is a multi-adjustable trigger offering users a choice between five different weight-of-pull settings, selectable externally by the shooter with a Torx key without disassembling the rifle. The position of the trigger blade is also adjustable with a Torx key. A single-set trigger is available as an option.

Depending on the variant, the Sako 90 rifles can weigh anywhere between 2,6 kilograms (5.73 lbs) and 3,9 kilograms (8.59 lbs) when empty – making them perfectly manageable and comfortable to carry in most hunting situations and on every terrain.

The Sako 90 line of bolt-action rifles will be first showcased to the public in Europe at the Caccia Village expo, to be held in the city of Bastia Umbria (Italy) on May 12 thru 14.
