Springfield Armory Emissary 1911 pistol
Springfield Armory introduces the Emissary, a new .45 ACP caliber 1911 type semi-automatic pistol, entirely manufactured out of forged steel to offer Custom-grade quality, look and feel in a full production package
New for Summer 2021, the Springfield Armory Emissary .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol is the latest entry in the catalog of the Geneseo (Illinois)-based company, one of the world's biggest and best known manufacturers of 1911-type pistols.
The Springfield Armory Emissary was designed, and is manufactured, to offer a Custom-grade pistol look and quality levels in a full production package, at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,279.00 in the US; not exactly the cheapest around, but neither an "expensive" 1911 given the sometimes egregious price tags that this kind of handgun can sometimes reach nowadays.
Springfield Armory offers the Emissary 1911 .45 ACP pistol as a reliable alternative for personal defense, home and property protection, sport shooting – including competition – and tactical or duty purposes.
In order to maximize durability and quality of all key components, the Springfield Armory Emissary is entirely manufactured out of stainless or carbon steel: the slide, frame, and cylinder are all forged.
The Match grade, Bull profile barrel is 5" long, features a 1:16" rifling pitch, a recessed crown, and is designed for maximum accuracy and reduced muzzle flip; a one-piece full-length guide rod and recoil spring help tame the recoil even in rapid fire.
The stainless steel frame features a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny accessory rail, an oversized square trigger guard for more convenient use with gloved hands, and a set of VZ Grips Thin Line G10 grip panel, whose checkering pattern matches the grenade pattern texture machined on the front strap and mainspring housing for firm engagement in adverse conditions.
The grey finish of the carbon steel slide matches the color of the machined G10 grips and the mainspring housing, while providing a stark contrast to the stainless frame; the appeal of the resulting overall bi-tone effect is further highlighted by the unique look of the slide, with its "Custom" milling pattern – consisting exentially of a Tri-Top style forward lightening grooves and 40 LPI flat top serrations for light diffusion and glare reduction.
Sights are dovetailed to the slide; the tritium & luminescent front sight of the Emissary pairs with a Tactical Rack U-Dot rear sight for easy target acquisition in all lighting conditions.
Other features of the Springfield Armory Emissary 1911 .45 ACP pistol include a skeletonized hammer and a simplified and streamlined, solid-body, flat-faced trigger. The manual safety is located only on the left side of the frame, easy to engage and disengage with a thumb flick by right-handed shooters. The grip safety is extended, as it's now basically standard for modern production 1911 pattern pistols.
The new Springfield Armory Emissary 1911 .45 ACP pistol is 21,3 cm / 8.4" long overall, and weighs in at 1,13 kilograms / 40 oz. when empty. Each Emissary is issued with two single-stack, eight-rounds magazines with black polymer buttplate manufactured in Italy by MEC-GAR.
As of today, the Springfield Armory Emissary 1911 pistol is available only in .45 ACP – other chamberings may be made available starting in 2022. No information has been released so far concerning availability and pricing on the international markets; prospective customers outside of the United States may want to reach out to their national Springfield Armory distributor for further inquiries.
